New Space Marine Chapter: Orbital Beacons

Recommended Posts

What I can remember from Battle-Fleet Gothic is that A battle barge is configured for close support of planetary Landings, but this does not mean it can’t fight ship-to-ship action. What its lacks in range in makes up for in superior armour, shields and boarding actions.

Pretty much this, to belabour the point.

What is considered the main armament of a Barge is the Orbital Bombardment Cannon, but it is amply fitted with launch bays and batteries as well - no point bringing a ship to a fight when it will get torn apart if all it can do is launch Thunderhawks or attempt to aim the BC.

The Astartes are forbidden from using Lance-type weapons* and maintaining fleets suitable for naval action - which is why the BFG lists can be quite limiting.

Also, the name - again! :( - the name!

*No one even think it.

Sorry for going off topic :) but I understand they are primary for Transport and supporting planetary landings, not really designed as a ship-of-the-line battleship, my point was they are still capable of defending themselves if needed.

From the Lexicanum:

The vessel is extremely heavily armored and well-shielded for breaching planetary defenses while also protecting its cargo. It is also a dangerous enemy, especially with boarding actions but also contains enough firepower to destroy all but the most powerful of warships. Battle Barges are some of the most powerful ships the Imperium has at its disposal, due to both the power of the ships and their contents.

Codex: Space Marines 3rd edition

I would rate this vessel as comparable to an Emperor class battleship, its lower acceleration and closer ranged weapons weighing off against superior armour and shields.

All you need to know right there. :)

Should I mention that the Space Marines capital ships are forbidden to carry a armament designed for fleet combat and the BB main guns are specificaly designed for Orbital Bombardment? No, hmm I thought so.

Funny how i know that as well, oh wait, yes thats right, i read fluff as well! I was quoting the IA, which was approved by GW, that included the fluff. Yes yes i know that GW, BL, FW all like to tread on each others toes, but if it was so much of a fluff no no, it wouldn't be there.

Don't quote me on this but IIRC, the only ships capable of landing and then take off of planet are Escorts.

Alright "Mr. I like correcting people", calm down. I said it might be possible, as i said though scientifically speaking, large parts of 40k make no sense.

[barb] If you want be angry, be at yourself. It's your own fault for quoting flawed stuff. [/barb]

That's because the Planets are often armed too and more heavily than any ship out of here to boot.

And, boarding actions don't work that well against Chaos or Orks.

Sorry guys, but I AM KEEPING THE NAME!!!

It's not that I dont value all your opinions, but it sounds perfectly fine to me and there are weirder sounding names out there, i.e. the Imperial Stars, Rainbow warriors, etc. Besides, if I change everything just because someone doesn't like it then soon it wont be my chapter yknow?

Anyways, there were like 10 posts about various types/weapons systems/shields/transport capacities of different Imperial Navy and Astartes ships...if you want me to change something the ndirect it my way ok? Thanks and sorry I am partially dyslexic so I can be easily confused :P Also why my spelling may not be as good as it shoud be

Sorry mate, we didn't mean to take over your thread! ^_^

@Pulse, no worries! I love a debate as much as the next guy, but I'm just confused is all. Now if there are spoils involved, then it gets interesting :tu:

@Octavulg ok I understand. Just some people saying they dont like it cause it isnt terrifying or cool enough, and no it's definitely not normal. But neither am I haha

You could try a name with a similar concept but a different actual presentation. The Skyfire Chapter, or the Emperor's Suns (ow, pun), or the Inspirators of Talis (like the way I just made up a word? :P), or the Paragons of Talis, for example(s).
Beacons isn't a problem for me, orbital is ... as Octavulg said it just give the wrong feel.

How about:

Imperial Beacons

Death Beacons

Celestial Beacons

Etc ...

The opposite for me. The word 'beacon' gives me mental image of marine, shining with inner light.
