Tell me that this ISN'T, Lion El Johnson

I think the model has been seen before, but this is the first time I've seen it painted.

Ignore the name of the model, to me this is Johnson. The Angel and Lion motif's all over it, the helmet. Heck it even has a Lion Skin Cloak drapped over the back. It just screams the Primarch of the DA to me.

Haha, dont be so silly, if this was a model of Lion El' Jonson, then GW would have closed this place down a long time ago.

Nope, it's a model of a templar knight featuring the recurring motifs of lions and some kind of hooded angel type thing. I cant quite make it out, it's so dark.

I think that's a cool mini and you should go ahead and buy it for a conversion darkangellion, ofcourse it'd be very rare to use him in the game, unless you fielded him as Azreal or something, but that would make for a very fun set of homebrew rules and scenarios, using the Lion ingame!

I keep getting an idea to make a diaorame with marines from various chapters, but doing each primarch sounds like a much more worthy venture!

whatever you do, make sure you post pictures!

Why is the primarch always festooned with terran lions the caliban lion was a chaos beast?

He was named after the Terran Lion, because of his "lion like appearance"

A primarch named after a chaos beast... now wouldn't that be something!

I thought 'Lion el'Johnson' meant 'Son of the Forest' in ancient Caliban, likely chosen by the developers because it's cool to have a character named 'Lion'? Or was it that 'Lion' means lion (due to his golden mane) and 'el'Johnson' means Son of the Forest? Can't quite remember now...

How aware were Calibanites of Calibanite Lions? I doubt they would have named the golden haired Primarch after one, as they look nothing like 'Terran' lions. Were the two encounters in Descent of Angels the only two?

Sorry he was not. From lexicanum (I know I know)

Jonson was found by a group of warrior knights of The Order during one of their quests across the planet. While the knights prepared to kill Jonson, one of their number, a man named Luther, sensed something not immediately apparent about this seemingly wild man and prevented his fellow knights from attacking. Luther and the band brought Jonson back to their Fortress Monastery and named him 'Lion El'Jonson' which means The Lion, the Son of the Forest after the location and circumstances they found him in.

I'd lik to see GW do something with his old name and make Lion El'jonson the gothic translation of his caliban name.

Lion El'Jonson's name is inspired by the English poet Lionel Johnson, the author of "The Dark Angel". Originally the name was spelt "Lyyn Elgonsen"2-p138. In a 1987 White Dwarf article3 he is also referred to as "Lynol Jacobsen or Jonsen", the point being that very little knowledge of Dark Angels' early history has survived.

Sorry took this way off topic. With paint any of these models could do the primarch proud.
