shan vener
hey guys, after months of thinking i've decided that grey knight will be my second army. while i at my hobby store today i picked up the codex, crowe, and a box termies built with 2 halberds, 2 swords, daemon hammer, psybolt ammunition, psycannon. so do i have a good start (i'll pick up another box soon) and what do i need to know. thanks in advance shan vener Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230360-a-new-recuit/ Share on other sites
BrotherWasted
Basically, unless you're going to be buying/making some Purifers, there is no point using your Crowe model as Crowe himself. But, he is not a wasted model, you can certainly run him as a normal Brotherhood Champion for your HQ choice (who is an IC and can be hidden in units unlike Crowe). With some conversion you could even make him into a power-armored Inquisitor (he has the =I= symbol on his shoulders already, and the sword can be converted to be a different weapon altogether, if you ever wanted). The termie squad seems fine. I do see some merit in only upgrading 2 Halberds in a 5-man squad. If you're going to be assaulting with your Termies, a 4++ in CC with the swords is good to have. It seems fine so far. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230360-a-new-recuit/#findComment-2767304 Share on other sites
nurglez
I've never used crowe, but from what I hear, he is mainly used to unlock purifiers as troops. I would suggest, playing a few games with stand in's, no point spending money if you dont have to. Me I play a draigo wing force, draigo, 15 paladins and a dreadknight at 1500 points, I went out and bought this without play testing it, because I have been playing a logan wing recently so know how to use terminator heavy forces. If you know you want power armoured grey knights, pick up as many of those boxes as you need, and some transports for them. A grand master or libby is often a good choice to, but some people prefer a cheap hq like the inquisitor, so they can fit in more grey knights. Look at the codex, read it alot, write out some sample armies for what ever size battle you usually play, and try them out, or make an army that is similar to what you usually play with and buy that :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230360-a-new-recuit/#findComment-2767305 Share on other sites
number6
Welcome! ;) There are multiple ways to build quality GK armies. With and without Crowe. With and without Terminators (or Paladins). The Crowe model is definitely handsome, and as stated, can sub in for other HQ choices as well. Since you've bought Terminators, you should look to build a list that includes them, but this is no detriment. Find the units in the codex that suit your fancy, post example lists in the army list subforum (linky pinned the top of this page), and have fun! shan vener
I've got another question. do ALL terminator bits from ALL armies work together, like a chaos lord cloak for example (not that i have many of those lying around :ermm: ) i'm just thinking that it would make a really cool grand master Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230360-a-new-recuit/#findComment-2768673 Share on other sites
number6
GW has made it so that virtually any Marine model bit -- be it Loyalist or Chaos -- can be easily comboined with any other Marine bit.
