Long Fang squad leader

He shouldn't be a guaranteed casualty, against Dark Eldar or Guard where there are going to be lots of vehicles I would rather have the ability to go for twice as many enemy hulls than have 1 extra missile.

Im glad someone else pointed this out as well - I don't automatically take him out as first casualty - Nor do i go for the traditional missile spam - TBH I fail to see wats so great about them, other then beeing one of the cheaper options.

So far i have been running a mix of heavy bolter - las In most of my games both get plenty of targets - and with the squad leader enabeling them to go for seperate targets I tend to hang on to him as long as I can - usualy the WG and one of the 3 heavy bolters goes before the squad leader does

EDIT also have been considering running some scouts as screen for them

The only time I'd ever even consider anything on a LF leader is if I was going to stuff them in a drop pod. Then I'd think about giving him a melta and stuffing a combi-melta armed WG in the pod as well, as part of a multi-melta armed long fang squad dropped in the first wave. Maybe.

Other than that one situation, I'd go the opposite. Stuff naked WG in each squad to soak up wounds.

Can't make up my mind... (and at the current GW prises I'm no longer about to make one for each option like I used to with some other armies)

Magnets!!! They save money AND case space!

Missiles and lascannon in my opinion are the best weapons for Long Fangs. Heavy bolters aren't significantly better than bolters for killing infantry, Grey Hunters deal with most things that you'd need heavy bolters for. Plasma cannon are okay, but the proliferation of cover means that generally the AP2 isn't that significant, and the scatter rules for templates can completely stuff you up (in one game an enemy fired a plasma cannon at my Grey Hunters and it scattered back killing a chunk of the unit he was planning to charge them with), multi-meltas... well Space Wolves don't run melta bunkers and the only other use is dropping them in a drop pod with Logan, which to be honest I don't see as an efficient use of him. Again Grey Hunters with meltagun/combi-melta deal with things you'd need multi-meltas against.

With the new damage table and cover most of the time you'll only be stopping vehicles from moving/shooting with your Fangs. Missiles and lascannon do that better at longer ranges than any other option they have. Suppress the vehicles at range, then destroy them with your Hunters as they advance.

:D  You guys were suposed to make this easyer for me.... not harder.. I also should have mentioned before that they are one of the few units I usualy send into battle in a pod - but as of late even then they seem to get stuck in CC after one or two turns of shooting.
