Deathwing vs. Ork Horde

An all death wing army almost has to be a jack of all trades list,

Every unit has to be able to tackle a LR and hammers realy cant do that,

They arent even that tough, a group of 5 lightning claws on the charge will decimate them

 

4attacks each makes for 20 attacks,

10hits

7.5wounds

2.5, let's say 3 dead

 

4 attacks back

2hits

1.6, wounds

Kills one,

Claws win, happily.

 

Squad of 11 ork boys with a claw will too

They realy arn't that tough,

 

In any low body count army, everything has to deal with everything, and hammers fail at so many things.

Shoved in a crusader with a Chaplin they aren't terrible, but you lose so much of what makes the DW effective. Which is the ability for a small unit to be able to kill hordes, meq, teq, and AV 14. You can outfight shooty armies, and outshoot fighty armies.

I disagree. 1st I cannot remember the last time I saw 5 LC termies (usually it is mostly 2 or 3, and then only for things like templars or blood angels, who will go before you on the charge, and kill your non-SS termies more easily.), and that is the issue, most All PW squads I see are striking before I 4 at which point the 3++ invul is superior, without it, you likely get squad wiped. I tend to have one chain fist in each squad to help deal with land raiders and walkers, but really the other elements in my list are there to deal with those. Other than against Nids and Orks 5 TH/SS termies is a better choice than any other choice.

Except that they really cannot acomplish this, looking at your build you have 4 storm bolters and a cyclone, or 3 and an assault cannon. This is 10 shots either way (or 8 and 2 templates), this is not enough shooting to overwhelm a horde, your unit is not durable enough to withstand, weight of fire, or low Ap weapons with only 1 3++ save, and you still don't have enough CC attacks at Initiative or higher, to make it work. Your unit build is similar to what we used to run pre-FAQ and that simply was not a competitive army, it is not good enough at anything. NOw, I will agree to disagree as I doubt I will convince you that it would not work, I just know having played old DW (both mech and non-mech) that that build (in my area) cannot compete with other top armies.

I'll have to check, but I don't think I can just swap in LRCs (I haven't played them in the league yet). Assuming I can't take an LRC or two, I can switch my squad configs. I have a lot of magnetized arms, so I can change up some things on that end - how does this sound for the four non-Command squads:
