Brother_Fatiswon
i have found on my local craigs list, somebody selling a 3rd edition starter box full of NOS mini. can any one tell me if the models that came in that box are on part with the current tactical space marine box minis in terms of scale? thank you if you can help FH Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230622-3rd-ed-box-marines-vs-current-tacticals/ Share on other sites
Olis
Scale? AFAIK the scale is either the same or different to such a small degree that it's negligable. 3rd ed was the first time the multi-part models (as we know them in their current incarnation) were sold. Gurth
Do you mean "on a par with the current tactical space marine box minis"? In that case: yes, they are. They're pretty much the same models, it's just that they used to be on small individual sprues (IIRC one with the legs, body and head of one marine; another with the arms, shoulder pads and weapon for one marine; and one with five backpacks) instead of with several models on one sprue, but the parts are essentially the same as for the current plastic models. ShinyRhino
The only major difference is the command sprue. In stead of a flamer, plasma, melta on the command sprue, you get a missile launcher and a flamer. That's it. That's it. This. The landspeeder also won't have the weapon options to make it a tornado or typhoon. Steel Company
I still have my 3rd ed starter box marines, and they are a little smaller then the current ones, and less detailed too. Durus
I still have my 3rd ed starter box marines, and they are a little smaller then the current ones, and less detailed too. The only difference I see is that there are different helmetless heads on the old sprues. Other than that the 3rd edition marines are exactly the same as the current ones, except for the special weapons, as has been mentioned before. Maybe you are thinking of the two-part 2nd edition marines that still used to come in the paint sets during 3rd edition? Steel Company
Nope, they were 3rd ed. They have separate shoulder pads, arms, and two part torso. but when I stand them next to a current marine from one of the newer tactical boxes the old ones look old! the bolters are smaller on them too Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230622-3rd-ed-box-marines-vs-current-tacticals/#findComment-2772217 Share on other sites
