Your thoughts on a techmarine paint scheme

What are your thoughts on the color scheme for a techmarine of the Unforgiven?

The images I found using google are split pretty evenly between admec red and DA green. I'd like to avoid the "hey look its a christmas marine" comment everytime I put him on the table. I know techmarines are not trusted with secrets of the inner circle but could the Ravenwing potentially have some techmarines for all those vehicles? Black and red with green accents would look nice I think.

Now before it comes up, I know they're my models and I can paint them however I want but I'd like to stay fluffy in terms of paint scheme and maintain some uniformity in my army which is all black, green, and white in color.

Also what are your opinions on robes for a techmarine a half tabard might look cool or are techmarine strictly out of the robe club:

" Sorry George you don't get to wear a cool robe, you went off to school and got too high headed with all that book learning you did on Mars"

I personally would be painting the majority of the TM red, then paint one shoulderpad the colour of the base colour for the army that you play. I.E. ravenwing-black, Deathwing-bone/white or 3rd co and such the DA green. Using deeper Reds/green should help with the "christmas marine" issue.

I'd agree with kizzap88. Mars Red all the way with green shoulder pad :) . After all how many DA green Chaplains do you see around? Not many but it's the same issue of specialist v chapter armour colour.

On the tabard issue - I think it might look cool on an old school techmarine but maybe a bit overkill on the current model, which is already a beautiful design IMHO.

When you've got him going post some pics as I love techamrines - even if in-game they are a bit underpowering (in the DA book anyway).

Cheers

I

The Codex shows that the armor for all the specialists covers their entire armor with only the green shoulder plate. The only Techmarine I could see wearing robes would be the DA equivalent of the Master of the Forge who is the only Techmarine to be inducted into the Inner Circle.

The thing that's confusing me about that is the model on the front of the techmarine box is painted up in full Ultramarines colors with very little if any red. Shouldn't they be the ultimate codex following chapter?

I was referring to the DA Codex. But from the background there is latitude in what each chapter does to designate their specialists, companies, etc... The Dark Angels have it set up that their specialists have their armor fully painted in their specialists color. If they are going to have robes perhaps put them in a deep dark green using bleached bone mixed in for highlights to avoid the Christmas effect or mix them with a Dark Red on the armor.

In my opinion, robes are just robes. If youre going to give the tech guy robes, they sould be bone white, like the rest of them. I dont see a special robe delivery for they guys in red armor goin on :D

I use detail colour for hooking up the army, for example, all power cables are turquoise, with the typical hazard yellow/black striped one in between when there is a bunch of power cables. Small details are the ones that glue your army together, even when the armours are very different, like the bone withe of deathwing and the deep green of company troopers. As I see it, if you change the robe colour youre sepparating that particular guy further form the rest, instead of makin it blend in.

Maybe you could skip the robe colour on chapter masters or Azrael himself, HQ models are meant to stand out form the rest of the army. If youre doing this though, you may want to add some kind of ornamentation or extra detail on the robes, so they stand out as finer and richer outfit, not just the same cloth everyone else has in a different colour.
