paladin purgation squad

hey guys i was looking through my codex yesterday and i saw that a paladin squad can take two weapons per five paladins so i got the idea of a paladin purgation squad. (no i don't really plan on using this) does this sound kind of cool, even if only used in a friendly game.

here's a squad example

paladin squad of 10, 4 psycannons, apothecary, psybolt ammunition, 5 standard paladins. 725 points

Swap psybolt ammo for Brotherhood Banner, and thats pretty much what I field in a Draigowing list (two of them actually).

It's a big 'eggs in one basket' type unit, but depending on your opponent they won't have enough to counter it. Plus, you can always split off the different sections so that Apothecary goes with the 4 psycannon dudes (as you are more likely to require his services in ranged combat), and the Brotherhood Banner+4 friends head off towards the enemy in a Stormraven (with a Libby inside to generate 'Shrouding' and boost them in combat with 'Might' and 'Hammerhand'). Psycannon combat squad blasts apart enemy armour and sits pretty on an objective, the aggressive half heads onto an enemy-held objective.

Keeping them together also works if you have servo-skulls in good positions and a Grandmaster/Inquisitor with 'Communion'. Bring them on when you want, where you want. If you choose to Scout/Outflank thanks to the Grandmasters 'Grand Strategy', keeping them together is advisable.

what i meant was, does it sound like something that could work, even if only in friendly games. do i need to do more math hammer?

Of course it will work. Pouring endless points into an unbeatable Death Star always works :)

You should however probably think of what to combine them with to make them work to win games.

okay then does this squad sound okay (changed a few things)

Two questions.

One, why are you bothering master-crafting psycannons? It's more expense for a pretty marginal benefit (psycannons are about quantity not quality, so re-rolls are less important than say on your hammers).

Secondly, what are you bothering with swords, and where are your hammers? Halberds mean you kill more stuff and therefore take less casualties in return, 1-2 hammers are insurance against walkers and monsters (if you roll badly with your halberds you still have a powerfist force weapon going off later on).

I normally put around 5-7 halberds in a 10man pally squad, 2 hammers, and either swords or falchions for the rest (4++ in combat is pretty good at times, and I wanted one guy with falchions at least). It also helps for wound allocation shenanigans, which is very important for the survival of the paladin squad.
You want to try and make the psycannons all unique so you can play the wound alocation game.

sorry but thats one game i just don't play

so how about this (no master crafting, still 750)

apothecary, hammer

psycannon

psycannon, halberd

hammer paladin

I like the daemonhammers on the psycannons because it looks BAMF. I think it is a cool upgrade for the medic as well.

G :tu:

i would love to do that if i had more hammers.

one question though

why are paladins the seemingly one unit in the codex that people have no problem with them taking up 50% or more of the points in the army

ohh i just had a thought. i have a habit of naming models if they do well in game (no idea why but i now have a stormraven named airwolf 1) what if I was to name the squads after Mortal Kombat characters. think about it. justicar scorpion armed with a knife and chain (AKA halberd), or eversor assassin cryax
