A Question for my furry Battle brothers.

Recommended Posts

Over on the Dark Angels forum, we are working on what we would like to see in a new, 5th edition Dark Angels Codex. Within that, a discussion of the 'heavenfall blade's has arisen. For those that do not know they are the blades that were forged from a meteorites ore. The size of this meteor has always been vague. Its interesting to note that in each addition the number of blades has grown.

In second edition there was only Azreals Sword of Secrets.

In 3rd edition there was the Sos and the Ravensword.

In 4th the master of the DW also got one, and its the first time they got given the title the heavenfall blades, but there was also fluff stated that its actually given out to 'important members of the Inner Circle" and that additional ore was given to all the successors as well. (Its the ever expanding meteorite :P )

So now we come to 5th edition. We'd like to possible see their accessibility expanded. The obvious point of reference for them are Frostblades. IN NO WAY DO WE THINK THEY SHOULD BE AS ACCESSIBLE as frostblades. So my question is this......doing a little mathhammer....assuming the entire space wolves chapter took to the field...AND....assuming that everyone that COULD take a Frostblade...DID take a frostblade. How many frostblades would that be?

Assuming that the Space Wolves have a set Chapter number kind of throws this whole thing out of whack. There is a huge variance of numbers, with estimates ranging from the minimum 1200 to into the upper thousands. Furthermore, given the nature of the current codex, about half the units in the Dex can take frostblades. So, to answer your question, every Terminator we have, every Lord/HQ/Upgrade variant, most TWC... Maths...

Assuming the minimum number of Wolves at 1200, I'm willing to bet that we could field anywhere from 75 to 200 Frost Blades. Conservatively.

EDIT: That's disregarding any of the many Grey Companies that have gone away from the Wolves but are still fighting the good fight in the name of Russ and Russ alone. Expand to include that and I'd put the number well over a thousand.

EDIT EDIT: Disregarding fluff, and taking sheer FoC numbers into account, theoretically we could take... 505. If not more.

That is another point that I failed to mention. We are not looking at some limited resource.

Of course in regard to the DA space sword, Superman's kryptonite keeps popping up all the time. So each meteor that the DA find able to make a sword from can be just a miniscule part of a planet that was made of all the metal said swords need to be made up.
