CutThroatRazor
I have a squad that I need to get apart and remodel. What can I do? I know superclean and brakefluid works to get the paint off but what can I do to get the glue to dissolve? Thanks for any help. *(The glue is Extreme Power CA [medium] from Hobby Lobby) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230683-how-do-i-get-models-apart-after-they-have-been-glued/ Share on other sites

Thanks for any help. *(The glue is Extreme Power CA [medium] from Hobby Lobby) Depends on what kind of glue you used. If you used supper glue you should be able to just pop the parts off. If you used plastic glue, liquid cement for plastic, or modeling cement it is hard because it basically fuses the parts together. If you used that kind of glue you just have to be real careful and pry it apart, but in my experience you end up breaking the model before it comes apart. CutThroatRazor
I used super glue. I popped off all of the parts that I could but the heads, torso and legs are all being a real pain! chewielight
You can put the model in the freezer and the bond with super glue becomes brittle so it shouldnt take too much to pop it out. I know this goes without saying but be careful trying to pry the parts off. I have seen (done) many a nasty cut trying to pry minis apart. Octavulg
I find painting them as nicely as I can and then dropping them on the floor is a very reliable method. ;) The easiest way to separate the torsos from the legs is to twist them, usually. In regard to the heads...I find that if the heads don't want to come off, I'm very unlikely to be able to make them do so. Far easier to suck it up and paint them as they are. MagicMan
With heads, if you can get a pair of thin pliers and apply pressure to the neck, or under the chin, you can usually make the helmets pop out. Just try to apply pressure to the neck join if you can, so you don't end up damaging the head itself. Manes
I find painting them as nicely as I can and then dropping them on the floor is a very reliable method. :P I can vouch for this method  Also try to wedge something thin but strong, like modelling knife between connecting parts. Olgerth Istaarn
If the cement was used sparingly, you can pry most parts apart with careful wedging or twisting. Of course, there might be collateral damage to later greenstuff. If the cement was used liberally however, forget it. Two parts become fused together and unless you saw them apart with a jeweler saw, they are there to stay. Red Fury
If the freezer trick doesn't work, then try giving them a 24 hour soak in purple power or simple green. Whenever I strip paint off of superglued minis, they come out of the bucket in pieces.
