BrotherCaptainArkhan
Hi everyone, Long-time lurker, rare poster on the B&C, I thought I'd share some of my work with you guys and get some criticism and feedback. These are snaps of the command elements of my new Chapter, the Sons of Tyr. The SoT are a Chapter thought to have Raven Guard heritage, but genetic traits suggest geneseed from other Chapters - probably Ultramarines - has been used in their history (ex.the Melanchrome functions somewhat normally). The Sons draw influences from Norse mythology, Native American lore (although you won't see any of this just yet, one of the Tactical squads I've painted up uses Lakota names, and I have plans for a forthcoming Seer - counts as Rune Priest - who combines Native Am shamanism and Norse mythology in his background.) After a civil war within the ranks of the Chapter that saw its fragmentation, with the destruction of several Companies and the flight of three more who revoked their oaths of loyalty to the Emperor, the Chapter's command is in tatters. The former Captain of 1st Co. and the Warden of Madrigal, the Chapter's homeworld (obliterated in the civil war), is now the acting-Chapter Master of the Sons of Tyr. He is Alric Vanatyr: http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n617/MjolnirVII/P1000107.jpg This is an awful photo - the paint is much smoother in real life and his eyes are a lot less 'starey' - I need to learn to use my camera a lot better! Back shot: http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n617/MjolnirVII/P1000106.jpg The chapter civil war saw many champions rise within the ranks of the loyalist Sons of Tyr, but amongst those who earned fame for themselves, Alric's Champion, the Hand of Tyr, is most widely renowned. His name is unrecorded, lost in the destruction of Chapter annals during the decimation of Madrigal. He wears the ornate armour of the Chapter Champion and wields a pair of artificer-crafted power swords. http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n617/MjolnirVII/P1000111.jpg http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n617/MjolnirVII/P1000110.jpg http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n617/MjolnirVII/P1000112.jpg http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n617/MjolnirVII/P1000114.jpg Brother-Captain Horik Angantyr is one of the few marines of Captain rank amongst the loyalists who survived the chapter civil war. Since the end of the war he has served Alric with unfailing loyalty and commitment to the Chapter's future, often fighting alongside the Hand in the bloodiest assaults on enemy strongpoints, serving in Alric's personal hearthguard when the Chapter Master goes to war. http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n617/MjolnirVII/P1000116.jpg http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n617/MjolnirVII/P1000117.jpg And finally...a little sneak peek of a forthcoming project of mine (enormous kudos to the tutorials of Doghouse and Apologist!). Haestes Volund, one of the Five - a group of champions formed by Alric for reasons unknown immediately following the end of the chapter civil war, who departed Madrigal for places unknown. Their mission is thought by those outside of Chapter command to involve the destruction of the renegade Sons of Tyr who destroyed Madrigal and fled the system before retribution could be exacted. http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n617/MjolnirVII/P1000121.jpg All thoughts, criticisms and comments appreciated...I know everyone probably says this, but the models honestly do look better in real life, my camera skills are not good. I aim to improve ^_^ I should that Alric's base is unfinished and the Hand's power swords have not yet been painted, similarly both have 'name plates' on the front of their bases that haven't been painted properly or inscribed yet. Angantyr's paper name plate is a rush job that will be replaced at some point in the future. BrotherCaptainArkhan
Cheers! Glad to hear you like him, he is definitely one of the better painted models in the growing SoT force. I've taken some new photos of Alric as I couldn't stand the ones above - these are not much better, but hopefully you can see the paint isn't as blotchy as it looks above. Oh and you get a shot of my laptop and me looking at other B&C posts...damn candid shots. http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n617/MjolnirVII/P1000127.jpg http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n617/MjolnirVII/P1000126.jpg http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n617/MjolnirVII/P1000125.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230705-the-sons-of-tyr/#findComment-2772819 Share on other sites

Heru
Alric? Madrigal? Tyr? Five Champions? Do I smell Myth (The Fallen Lords / Soulblighter) or is it simple coincidence? BrotherCaptainArkhan
 There is indeed a lot of inspiration from Myth: TFL! I always wanted to bring inspirations from Myth into a 40k army, and the Sons of Tyr gave me the chance to do that - although admittedly the reference to Tyr (as the Hand of Tyr might have suggested) is not in fact the city Tyr in the game (which is sacked and burned ignominiously) but a reference to the Norse war god. I study Norse mythology and history at university so I wanted to factor in some Norse influences into the army - it is simply coincidence that the other inspiration (Myth) also includes a lot of Norse mythology as its inspiration. I had in fact thought of reworking the entire Chapter Command as a kind of parallel of The Nine, but then only five of the Nine are ever mentioned in TFL (Alric, Rabican, Murgen, Maeldun and Cu Roi) and that would really be taking things too far. The rest of the Chapter is pretty much drawn from Norse legendary saga material (and no that doesn't make them Space Wolves!) However, I did buy a Clawed Fiend from the DE range the other day, and I've got plans to convert it to look like a Myrkridia - there's a piece of artwork from Myth: Soulblighter of Alric fighting an enormous Myrkridia that's given me some inspiration for a diorama... :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230705-the-sons-of-tyr/#findComment-2773273 Share on other sites
Heru
Myth is a massive inspiration in my Chapters (see my blog link in my sig). Have you had much to do with the existing Myth online community in recent years? (for example have you heard of The Fallen's Vengeance?).
