How are you countering Grey Knights?

a very good point, so many tournaments at the moment ban special characters.

Yeah that's bad. Special characters are not the same as 2nd ed. Old practice which needs to change. Special characters are not as powerful as they used to be and takes the fun out of taking things like "logan wing", Coteaz henchmen armies etc...

Problem is that with some armies such as Space Wolves, dark eldar and GK they add to the variation in the army but when special characters are allowed in tournaments you don't see many Eldar armies without Eldrad, many blood angels armies without Mephiston and many Ork armies without Thatcher.

I can honestly say I haven't been to a tournament in about 10 years that banned special characters. Where are you guys playing?

England!

Last year I know the ETC banned special characters, don't know if they will this year but the Caledonian open ran by the Scottish team banned them in Jan and they banned them at Open war 13 but not at 14,

Oh and malachiofruss, have you considered just adding a combi-flamer to your wg instead of the combi melta?

Yeah, it just comes down to what I think I will need more shots of in a given match. I got give the WG a combi-melta and the GH the flamer or the GH the melta and the WG the combi-flamer. It all depends whether I think I'm going to be seeing more hoards or more vehicles. Among my group of friends that I play with there are: Marines, Templar, Orks, Tyranids, IG, Dark Eldar, and Tau. We also do "random teams" matches so it is quite variable what I am going to see in any given match.

I'm running a WG Termi army lots of Assault cannons and a few storm shields in each squad..., with 2 rune priests. If they Deep Strike they're dead, if they walk, they're dead cause I just pod in and walk backwards then charge them. if not then I'll just use powers like Living Lightning and smite them from afar...My best friend plays GK so... we'll find out different strategies lol I think he's trying to figure out how to beat me more than I am him lol...

Thatcher!!???! That would be some model. The old PM in mega armor :)

A 2500 GK army can run Coteaz/Libby, 5 DCA squads (3 in crusaders/2 stormravens). Steal initiative with 1/3 chance due to Coteaz or turn your steal into 1/36. Move all the vehicles together and pop smoke then throw up shrouding. Armour 14/14/14/12/12 with a 3+ cover. You don't see too many pure lascannon squads of longfangs and even if you did they only have a 6% chance to wreck/destroy a shrouded crusader. Noone does landraiders better than GK's now with str 7 rending assault cannons and str 5 hurricane bolters+fortitude to ignore shaken/stun. The nades on the crusader allow the DCA's to strike at I6 and that list can squeeze out 3 techmarines to add defense nades/-1 toughness and pyschotroke (nasty effects if you haven't read the book).

I'm not too suprised that you haven't seen many of these list because most players will want to run a more pure GK list with dreadknights and paladins, etc.. but I think the henchmen list are much nastier if done right.

Our psychic defense gives us a much better chance to prevent their big strength boost from hammerhand and might of titans but that army will be assaulting by turn 2 and I've yet to find a unit that can stand up to DCA. Yes, I agree you have to find a way to bust vehicles and shoot/flame them off the board but that's easier said then done.

I haven't seen lists like that because in England we don't have any tournaments that comes close to the Ard Boyz points level, its either 1500 points or more often 1750 but then again if they were taking that amount of points my list would be greatly boosted, I'd have 3 squadrons of speeders who's job was land raiders hunting, you'd be putting 6 or 7 las plas razor backs down and perhaps three rune priests.
