Chengar Qordath
Why are we discussing non-GK units here? It's an interesting debate and well worth having, but this might not be the place to do it. As for the Purgation squad debate, Darius already pointed out their biggest flaw; Purifiers can do almost exactly the same thing for exactly the same point cost, and have better cc abilities on top of that. Master Toddius
Ok, real points: 1. 5 man Purgation squad with 4 psycannons and 1 Rhino = 220pts. 2. 10 man Purifier squad with 4 psycannons + 6x Halberds (because thats the only way I'd take them) and 1 Rhino= 332pts. 112pt difference. Possible strategy for Purgation Squad: Take 2 squads (224pt difference) with Rhinos and get to an area of the battle field based on scenario objectives and deny passage. After gaining ground create a LOS rhino wall for Purgation squads. Fire 32 Psycannon and 4 SB rounds at enemy after passing pychic test at leadership 9. If Rhinos are wrecked after return enemy fired and not destroyed then you have an ok outcome (not damaged being better) and squads remain invisible to enemy while firing 32 str7 w/Rending per turn. There might only be 5 in a squad but their survivability rate can be Very high. Since your up close to medium range the rest of your force should be able to counter assault any enemy CC units whom try to engage the squads. 112pt swing per squad might afford you another army make up that could really benefit from a large fire base core like them. I didn't bring up the devestator/Typhoon discussion - someone else did :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230765-purgation-squads/page/2/#findComment-2776473 Share on other sites
Reclusiarch Darius
Why are we discussing non-GK units here? It's an interesting debate and well worth having, but this might not be the place to do it. My bad, but it was at least tangentially related to the topic of oppertunity cost and 'can you do the same thing better with a different unit' debate which is essentially what the thread is about. It's not really comparing like with like though, thats why I tried to keep my unit comparisons pretty much similar (same bodies, no upgrades except max psycannon). I know you're making the point that Purgators pack more psycannons into one unit cheaper, but they give up any hope of withstanding a close-combat in the process. Purifiers remain as dangerous as Terminators in close-combat, while packing double the wounds, twice the firepower, and they live in the Elites, not Heavy Support.
