Scoped Saviour
Hey guys, I'm new to the whole 40k scene so this is the first time I've ever worried about painting tiny soldiers. I'm looking at doing a custom scheme for my chapter and at present I plan the edges of the shoulder guards to be skull white..... Having had a look around the forum I see it's not often used as a base colour. So how would you highlight it? Am I better off going for a slightly "off" White and then highlighting with skull White? Or is there an obvious technique I'm just missing? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230781-highlighting-white/ Share on other sites
Firepower
Search is your friend :P http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...ing+white\ But in short, there are two/three possible answers: either use pure white not at all or as a highlight over a near-white base, or just settle for shading recess instead. For best results I would recommend doing both. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230781-highlighting-white/#findComment-2774126 Share on other sites
Scoped Saviour
Thank you! Well I did search "highlighting white" Pages upon pages of results and I didn't see anything jump out at me... Intact I think "highlighting purple" was a topic on page one of the results :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230781-highlighting-white/#findComment-2774131 Share on other sites
Hemal
The best bet is to start off white - space wolves grey is a great base or Dheneb stone. You then highlight up to just off-white and highlight sharp edges with pure white and that should do you... A good example would be any tutorials painting WHite Scraes - I used teh GW reference for Korsarro Khan and adjusted teh colours slightly for my own marines. Thing with shoulder pad trim though is that it doesn't actually need any highlighting, paint flat white and draw a line of thinned down space wolves greay (really thi and very little fluid on teh brush) along the middle of teh rim..
