Dark Angel Skin

Recommended Posts

Hi all -

As you know we are working on upgrading the site to the 3.x version of the software. We *might* be able to keep existing skins (though they all have to be rebuilt from scratch).

The question for you guys is:

Do you find the current DA skin usable?

Are their colors you'd like to see that you don't see on it currently?

Different combinations of the existing colors (such as a bone background and green text) that you might like to see?

Many other things -- if we keep the skin -- will change (such as the buttons) and there is just no getting around that, but we want to see if there is some stuff that you guys would like us to keep.

Thanks.

I like the DA skin, but I admit I prefer the IPB default skin as there is more contrast between txt and background colours – especially when reading late at night. And if I'm here whilst at work – then the IPB blue is a little less conspicuous for 'secret' visits

So you don't use the DA skin in other words. Not entirely surprising since less than 2% of the users even use an alternate skin from the BNCDefault -- which is why we may not have anything beyond a light/dark skin when we change over.

So lighter colors? Seems like using "bone" as the background and green as the text would be eye-straining.

I also us the DA skin exclusively. I have been very happy with the current skin settings. We could try using the bone text here first. You can try to use the flip colors in in the fast reply box if that can be changed but I lime the dark look of the green.

As an alternate you can use the original Legion colors or Consecrator colors with the black and red. I'll poke around see if there are any other ideas or changes.

I really don't like it. The green's too light. It hurts my head after a while.

The deepest green the skin uses is pretty much the minimum for a green I could comfortably tolerate in large quantities. Personally, I'd recommend replacing the current DA skin with something more like the default skin, using that darkest green (where the default uses grey) and black. Maybe do the buttons in bone.

Problem with going black/red would be that it isn't really any different than the main B&C skin.

Erm... how do you change the skin? (I'm not forum smart)

I could give you an opinion after I check it.

And sorry, I guess this is out off topic.

I love the DA skin and find it the best one of all. The others seem to be either too harsh in their whiteness, or I cannot see the grey letters on the black background very well.

The only bad things about it are 'burgundy' letters are hard to read, which is true of many complimentary colours [ie, orange on blue is hard to see] and the lack of links being shown as a link unless I wave my cursor over it.

When people write _here_, I am left waving my mouse around like a loon trying to find it. :D

The green back ground is just perfect, don't lighten it or darken it :D

People don't use it due to ignorance, imo. A Templar said "you can do what?" and Hugebill has echoed that.

There are many functions on my computer that I am thoroughly ignorant of. I don't use it because the function is not good, I don't use it because I'm ignorant. I can type on it, use a calculator, go online and post/store photos, so I don't investigate it any further.

But who's to say that I wouldn't be doing something amazing and/or much more satisfying to me if I actually knew how to use it properly?

I can add, subtract, etc. This satisfies all my daily need. But rates of change, etc. are incredibly useful things that, had I not been shown, I could never have stumbled across by just adding and subtracting, etc.

Do you catch my drift?

The B&C classic, with its one light one dark post style of background actually makes the difference between the light grey and the white writing too close in contrast, making large amounts of text hard to read. The dark grey is superior.

Also, the red links on the grey/black has bad contrast, for my eyes at least.

Yes but Isiah does know about it and in fact most users do, they just don't use them. They know about them because they take the time to check out the B&C 101 which has user tutorials like so: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=133057

This has been a fact of the board for the 12+ years we have been here.

Classic won't be with us after we change to 3.x. Even if we add other Chapter skins, the Classic will go the way of the way of the Do-Do.

The skins we are 100% going to have right now are:

IPB Default

IPB Mobile

BNC Default

*Censored by the Inquisition*

NO!!!! Not my Classic!!! I find classic is the easiest on the eyes. The only other skin I don't mind is the SW skin ;)

I agree with some of the other people here, in saying that the DA skin is a little too bright, and the background colour needs to be substantially darker.

The DA skin is darker than the Classic's grey.... :D

I think it might come down to monitor quality. My Macbook gives a different feel to the other screens I view on.

They know about them because they take the time to check out the B&C 101

And people say the Admins don't have a sense of humour...:P

I think he meant, "perhaps skim...."?

what I am more referring to is the fact that in classic, the extreme background is black, which then contrasts to the grey of the boards, whereas in DA, the two greens are almost the same, and doesn't offer any difference.

Personally I wouldn't mind a black background, with a soft cream/bone board and black text, using the green for the headings and such...

For me is fine, but the green could be toned down a bit, and it would still look great. If there are going to be any changes, I'll too vote for avoiding the red/green combo of doom. The buttons I like a lot, if the need to be redone, I'll be happy if you went in the same direction as they are now.

I'm another one who didn't know there were alternative skins, or a B&C 101! The box in the bottom left corner is convenient but not where I expected visual options to be.

First impressions are that it's too bright but that may be the shock of changing from the very dark default scheme. I'll leave it on for a few days and see how I feel.

The "button" system is vastly different in 3.x so the buttons are going away and there really isn't much we can do about it. The new buttons *might* be bone colored but they won't have the graphic overlay like they do now.
