Mad Mek
Well, I have been reading posts and gawking at spectacular models on B&C for years now and had never really mustered the courage to offer comments or post any of my own stuff for people's judgement. I figured it's about time that changed. I am embarking on a totally new project and would like to ask for your comments and criticisms to make the result the best I can achieve. So here goes: Space Wolves first company, an all-terminator list using the Deathwing rules for tourneys (blasphemy, I know). I think making them wolfy will hardly be a challenge with the latest Space Wolf termie kit, but I want each squad to be individual without resorting to just using different shoulder painting. I'm mostly leaning towards base/pose themes (all snow-based). The first unit I'm working on is knee-deep in a snow drift. Any ideas? Pics of the models I've started will be forthcoming. Wolffan
Mayby try to make 'em in pre heresy style, then it will be some serious challenge  I can't wait to see your's "Loganwing" Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230851-the-great-wolfs-own/#findComment-2775343 Share on other sites
Hyaenidae
Um, I'm failing to see the point of a Space Wolf army using DA 'Deathwing' rules, when you can just use the Space Wolf Codex, take Logan Grimnar, and have an all termie army anyway. The SW 'Loganwing' would fit your needs much better, in my opinion. Other than that, I'm always excited to see an All Termie army, I'll be looking forward to the pics. Good luckk on your build! Wolffan
Mayby , he just wants to make some terminator command group, becouse in SW codex there is no termie-wielded banner or apothecary  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230851-the-great-wolfs-own/#findComment-2775351 Share on other sites
Kassill
Aye, I would go with the Logan wing personally, but if there is something in the DA book that strikes your fancy, go for it I guess. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230851-the-great-wolfs-own/#findComment-2775387 Share on other sites
GooseDaMoose
I dig. There was a Space Wolves army in a codex once that made the squads individual by all members of the squad doing something similar, or looking as if they fit together. So one squad had all the running legs as if running for cover under fire/charging, one was a bunch of marines standing still firing their bolters etc etc, but other than that, I can't really think of anything cept variations in the colour schemes (different heraldries and stuff) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230851-the-great-wolfs-own/#findComment-2775429 Share on other sites
Mad Mek
The reason I plan on using the Deathwing rules is simply to save 60 points per squad and not taking a huge comp score hit for running Logan (still basing my Belial off the new finecast Logan model, though). Anyhow, thanks for the comments. Here's a few pics of the first five. Trying to go for relatively dynamic and realistic poses. Note: they are not cripples, they're ankle deep in snow that isn't there yet. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2142.jpg?t=1306797115 http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2152.jpg?t=1306797230 http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2150.jpg?t=1306797318 http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2148.jpg?t=1306797347 http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2146.jpg?t=1306797386 The cloak didn't quite fit right over the shoulders so I put my mediocre greenstuff skills to work and tried to fill that in. I'll try have some painted pics of the missile launcher guy up tomorrow to see what you folks think of the color choice. Janitor101
The deep snow concept is really actually rather cool, I've never seen anything to that effect done before, I may have to 'barrow' and modify for my arab themed chapter and do ankle deep sand. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230851-the-great-wolfs-own/#findComment-2776743 Share on other sites

Mad Mek
Hm, hadn't thought about that. I generally don't think about huge honking termies hiding behind things, but you bring up a valid point. I'll just have to take extra precautions not to accidentally abuse that. Mad Mek
Sorry about the delay on pics, folks. Real life reared its ugly head and I got side-tracked. This is the first one I did. For the most part I am pleased with the way the color scheme turned out, but after taking some close-up pics I've noticed some spots that need touching up. The snow effect turned out mostly the way I intended, but I'm trying some new things with the next model to give it more texture. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2162.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2166.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2165.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2167.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2163.jpg Before I started squad 2 I ran out and bought a box of fantasy chaos marauder horsemen, because I saw the heads and realized I must have them. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2169.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2171.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2173.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2175.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2177.jpg Comments and criticisms welcome, as always. Mad Mek
When I saw Iacton Qruze's Bjorn log, I was inspired by the bronze technique he was using. I don't have any Vallejo paints lying about, so I used all gw colors to emulate it. Base in Tin Bitz http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2180.jpg Highlight with Dwarf Bronze http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2182.jpg Wash liberally with Delvan Mud http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2183.jpg Apply a lighter wash of Thraka Green. I was really happy with this color. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2186.jpg Add a really thinned down wash of Hawk Turquoise, keeping it to the recesses. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2188.jpg I needed to touch up the edges with a little more Dwarf Bronze afterwards, just to keep the edges sharp. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2189.jpg And for my next trick: decals!! Stay tuned for details later today and see if I can avoid screwing up my first time trying decals. Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
I love the ankle deep in snow idea Brother!! I may steal it (I've been thieving quite a lot recently...) to use in my Wolf Wing army. I have been working with the bronzed look as well and found that I really like the look of Leviathan Purple over Dwarven Bronze, high lighted again and then a light wash of Asurmen Blue. It's probably not as in depth as your or Iacon's process, but it looks good in my opinion. I will be watching this thread, keep it up!! End of Line Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230851-the-great-wolfs-own/#findComment-2789285 Share on other sites

End of Line I might have to try this on my chaos and see how it turns out. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2194.jpg For this, I actually put the Iyanden Darksun foundation on and then applied the decal. Then I painted over all the glossy area around the wolf with more foundation. I then painted black over the wolf and highlighted it with codex gray and astronomicon gray. It's almost like freehand, but way more lenient on small mistakes. Unfortunately it left a small amount of gloss that I'll try to smooth out somehow. Any suggestions? http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2195.jpg (unfinished) This I am not really happy with. I used my usual approach and then tried something new, using Ogryn Flesh to add depth. It made the finish look a little gloppy and glossy. On a side note, the wash smelled like rotting meat. I'll try another highlight level or two and see if that works. Finecast Logan Grimnar in the mail! RedMoon
army looks good as much as it pains me to hear your using the dark angel codex lol i have an all logan wing army its hard to beat 37 terminators in an army. how would you take a comp hit from using one special character over an other? that dosnt make since at all. and ya cant really call them the great wolfs own when your not actually using the great wolf...lol Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230851-the-great-wolfs-own/#findComment-2789985 Share on other sites
Mad Mek
Thank you all for the kind words. I've been feeling really enthusiastic about this army. army looks good as much as it pains me to hear your using the dark angel codex lol i have an all logan wing army its hard to beat 37 terminators in an army. how would you take a comp hit from using one special character over an other? that dosnt make since at all. and ya cant really call them the great wolfs own when your not actually using the great wolf...lol Well, I will be using the Logan model, but unfortunately he's over double the points of Belial, which makes him count as a "power unit" for these comp rules. I'm only running them under the DA rules for this tourney. On that note, I realized this morning that I need to do at least one model per day for the next month in order to finish in time. So here is today's termie. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2196.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2198.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/SAM_2202.jpg I'm thinking in order to differentiate the squads, I'll try the squads doing different things idea. Squad 1: ankle-deep in snow Squad 2: normal/moving over rocks Squad 3: slaughtering some orks Squad 4: roughed up armor and wounded, with dismembered orks on the bases Squad 5: command squad with banner and apothecary (special helmets/shoulders?) Squad 6: icy lake/river Still not sure how to do the icy surface yet, but I'm looking into it. For the command unit, I'm thinking about making them look a bit pre-heresy. Maybe using some of these: http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/kharne14/pre-heresyshoulders.jpg Thoughts? ItCameFrom1994
If you walk through snow you leave tracks, and in deep snow you leave a big deep gouge that shows where you've been. Your termies look like they've been standing perfectly still as the snow fell around them :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230851-the-great-wolfs-own/#findComment-2791792 Share on other sites
