this thread is full of win and I love the stuff you and mav are doing,

but a little bit off topic, is there someone with more Norse knowledge than myself know why they used a word that is a text book definition of a disorganized retreat for broken troops to describe the body of Astartes from Fenris in Prospero Burns?

Mind saying which word? I'mma go with Rout, but I'll wait for the reply before guessing, researching, and speculating.

I think the word "Rout" actually isnt taken from any norse or scandinavian, its actually english meaning:

1.

a. A disorderly retreat or flight following defeat.

b. An overwhelming defeat.

2.

a. A disorderly crowd of people; a mob.

b. People of the lowest class; rabble.

3. A public disturbance; a riot.

4. A company, as of knights or wolves, that are in movement. See Synonyms at flock1.

5. A fashionable gathering

I don't know how I left out the subject of my post!! too excited

@rikochet a fashionable gathering? that's a serious stretch

I wish I never heard of the word, or they used one that didn't already have such a negative meaning that is in common usage in wargaming

maybe it's like "a boy called sue" they go with a laughable name to get them into more fights <_<

i found where i think Rikochet may have found it at http://www.thefreedictionary.com/rout

beacuse that is where i found it at

That suggests that it is a synonym of Flock, one of loads of synonyms. ;) So we have a Flock of Sheep, a Herd of Cattle, a Murder of Crows and a Pack of Wolves and a Rout of Wolves.

As 'Rout' can be used for both Wolves and Knights, I wonder if this use derives from a knights performing feigned retreats to draw out pursuit from opposing forces. It mentions the Battle of Hastings on the Wiki entry on Rout, where a rout of the Breton forces drew drew out some of the the English defenders from the shield wall. That allowed the Breton Knights to counter attack these now unguarded units.

It sounds like the kind of cunning tactics the Wolves would pull off.

;) my eye is twitching, that means there is a devil in me that's waiting to explode ^_^ common sense comes from just reading the dictionary... courtesy is a different matter. Let's get back on topic people, this completely starting to take away the value and purpose of this thread. Although educational to a few, common sense+ unnecessary to the most.

Although I appreciate your zeal to keep the thread on track. I think simply stating such without the added "angry" smiley, "eye twitching", etc.. would suffice.

Please watch the venom in your responses (this means everyone).

The off topic rambling of the young pups, explains how they can get easily excited about trivial matters.

With being in the process of working on 4 different armies at this time, I have neglected to visit my fellow Wolves on here. I will pass out a round of ales to the worthy Brothers and Sister. I must say having read thru this entire thread I am compelled to make some additional shield maidens myself. My lone attempt is pale in comparision to Mav's model. A listing of what parts were used from what lines would be greatly appreciated.

@Mav-Girl, I think you have inspired many on here to do some additional modeling for our Wolf Companies. Keep it up!!

oh crap sees the angered mav girl and lowers his head and says i am sorry you can flog me later if you want to punish me.

but back to the topic i love the model and would love to know what parts were used so i can try to make one or 2 or 3 my self. as i love the idea of them.

So the Templars will soon have Routs, rather than crusades? :Troops:

the Templars do, every time the my wolves have hit them

back on topic, my apologies for the rambling, my join date was reset after the site's Apocalypse, so I'm a nearly senile Longfang

any you have any more pix of your shield maidens in action Mav_girl?
