Pullo's Black Templars

Recommended Posts

After reading Helsreach I suddenly got the urge to purge the heretics and exterminate the xeno scum! Oh, and to start building a mighty Black Templar army. :D

This is gonna be my 2nd WH40k army after my IG regiment.

I aim for tabletop-standard, nothing too fancy. I hate playing with unpainted models so I have to to balance time and quality in order to get all models painted in a reasonable time.

Got my 1st models today and started painting. The result isn't too bad, although I hope to improve on the next models. Gotta buy a decent brush or two though, mine are crap...

You, sir, are being modest. Besides a small amount of un-tidyness around the shoulder pad Templar crosses (which new brushes will definately fix), your BT's are of a much better than the average TT quality minis that I see.

Keep 'em coming

Cheers,

Jono

Woah! Thanks for the kind words guys, really motivating.

:HQ:

@Brother_Fatiswon: I tried it with white crosses on the black circle but wasn't too happy with the result. IMO BTs just need those black crosses on their armour.

Got a Neophyte and a Rhino ready:

Rhino needs a bit more detailing, but I've found out that working on black isn't easy.

Excellent looking models, very rugged and gives the feeling of marines in a warzone.

My only suggestion would be to darken the white a bit to match the rest of the weathered armor. Perhaps add some bleach bone so its not quite as stark. Also maybe some Devlan Mud or Badab Black ink around the edge of the should pads so the transition from white to red isnt so harsh.

Keep up the good work!

Got a couple of reinforcements:

Tried to wash the white on the shoulder pads but wasn't happy with the results (-> see Neophyte) . IMO the 'pure white' contrast looks better. Also painted over the red rim for a 'classic' BT scheme.

I plan to paint 2.000 points to tabletop standard within the next 8 weeks. Will go over minor details again but don't want to get bogged down on single minis for endless hours.

My Black Templars deserve to be fielded in all their glory!

Well if thats "crap" then I say keep it stinky.

Personally, I think they look sweet and I mean that in a non-Nurgley kind of way. :D

I like how your tabards and the banner have turned out, not too white or bright. Would you mind sharing your recipe por favor?

Cheers,

I have to say brother these really are well above average. There awesome.

If i may offer some advice on the white which I have found working so far on my Ravenguard, if you have a base of fortress grey where you want the white and then slowly build up thin layers of white you can actually make the white look darker in the recesses as you can still see the grey through it.

just my 2 cents.....

Really great work.... I wanna read Hellsreach again. :)

Thanks for the kind words, brothers.

Added a bit of work on Brother Gunthar and finished Brother Mikhael. Like how the claws turned out.

Will drill out the LRC's bolters once I get my new drill and will redo all lenses.

And Brother Theogar: tried a bit more details on the base and in general tried to paint more cleanly. Still not too happy with the highlights, but we'll get there...

Edit: some more high-lighting on the helmet and some minor details

Added another Initiate, now two more Neophytes and the 1st crusader squad is ready for deployment!

The melter will get a couple of Mithril Silver highlights once I've been shopping tomorrow.

The armour highlights look much more pronounced on this photo than on the model. But all in all I like it, the new bases work IMO better than the old ones. The cloth looks better and my painting is slowly getting less rough.

This is one of my 1st "conversions" ever, the Space Marine captain from the Assault on Black Reach box changed into a mighty Black Templar, the commandar of the Edessan Crusade, Marshal Tankred:

Still WIP, shield, sword, backpack and base not finished. Also needs some cleaning up.

And an older shot showing I've not been a complete slacker:

A Vindicator is almost ready, next I'll need to finish the Assault Terminators, then I'll add another Crusader squad or three...

Next: a crusader troop (7 initiates, 2 neophytes), still got a week to paint them.

No Pity! No Remorse! No Fear!

Thank you!

Chaos Black primer followed by dry-brushing with boltgun metal. Then I applied FW Dark Earth weathering powder and fixated it with a thin coating of Purity Seal. Then I used an airbrush to apply a fine layer of chaos black around the edges.

Fantastic army! I too had the Templar itch after reading Helsreach. Still wouldn't mind doing up a small force, but I have to focus on my Wolves.

Looking forward to more updates. This is definitely above table top quality my friend. :D
