Rise of the Wolf

I'm glad you guys like it so much.

And Russ Brother, if you can wait the month's between my "normal" posting habbits, you can wait for me to go through basic training. Plus, I might actually have the self discipline to go back and review all of this when I'm done. :P

Here's another treat.

P.S. do keep the critiques coming. Often the story is going along in my head, and doesn't quite make it to the paper with all the details and fluency it has in my mind.

The one with the limp right arm, Atfari came forward to help the other two. The warrior they had been fighting was dead, but Korpr was weak and Geirri was still impaled on the warrior's talon. They were up against a wall, so he wasn't terribly concerned about cover.

"Korpr, can you hold Geirri up a bit?" the Blood Claw nodded his reply. "Good. Atfari use your combat blade to cut the talon from the arm. Korpr make sure to hold him steady." As they went to work, Karl walked back into the street to see if he could spot any movement from the landing site.

He engaged his unit vox, "This is Stormsong, Spear-pack what happened?" He waited a moment, but there was nothing. "Hello, anyone from spear-pack respond. What's happened?" still nothing.

He cursed and turned back to the three young ones with him. Atfari had just finished cutting the talon off at the joint. He pulled two phials out of his belt. "Korpr, Atfari, here. I want you two to spray in the medi-gel as soon as the talons free from your side." They took a phial each and nodded.

Karl turned to Geirri, "It's going to hurt a bit, try to stay conscious." Astartes are strong, with the gifts given to them by the Emperor and their primarch. Headstrong blood claws could be especially resilient. Geirri bared his teeth and gave him a bloody smile. However, a meter and half long talon sticking one through from waist to collar-bone is a serious matter. At least one of his lungs were pierced, more likely two, and definitely one of his hearts. The talon had tiny serrations all along it's inside edge. There was going to be a lot of blood. "All right here we go."

Karl pulled the blade out, slowly so as to not cause more damage, but not so slowly as to drag out the process. Geirri gasped, then clenched his teeth and growled. Korpr and Atfari did their jobs well enough, but there was still plenty of blood. Karl set the talon aside. "You two help him up and carry hi if you need to. We've got to get back to the drop site and find what happened to the others. "They were likely dead, but they knew that, and they didn't need him reminding them. Geirri gasped again as they brought his to his feet.

Karl went back over to the warrior's bodies, and with three heavy axe blows struck off the tips from three talons. He gave one to Atfari, and to Korpr, and from the one that pierced his own body, to Geirri. He put it in his weak hand, slung over his pack mate's shoulders. The Blood Claw clenched his fist around it. "I'd let you take the whole thing Geirri, but it seems you don't want to carry it." Geirri couldn't even chuckle, but his bloody smirk said it all "Wise old man".

They took a slow and cautious pace; they couldn't go any faster if they wanted to. By the time they got near though, Geirri was white as fresh snow, and his lips were beginning to blue. When they were fifty meters from the drop site, Karl had them stop. "Wait there in that door's arch, I'm going to go forward and secure the area." Korpr and Atfari eased Geirri down onto the doorstep. Geirri winced, and then his head rolled. Korpr quickly checked him, he was still alive. He desperately needed the aide of the flesh-weavers, but Karl had been unable to make vox contact since they dropped. He had to figure out something, but for now, he needed to find the rest of the pack.
