Hear da Lamentation
Hiya folks. As the title says really - how do you highlight red armour? (Don't worry, I'm not off to the Blood Angels :) ... I just paint my powerfists red.) At present, I paint them red, give a wash of dark purple, paint the red over the top again - then wash this with a red ink - this gives a nice slightly glossy look to it which I like. Really I want to do the highlights before putting on this final red ink wash. My question revolves round trying to get the red highlight correct. It usually comes out as pink .... which is NOT what I want. I've tried experimenting with orange ... but this also didnt look quite right .... What's your thoughts? Dahli Llama
Depending on the original shade of Red, I'll just either grey or yellow/orange mixed in with the original shade to make highlights. It's a pain, I agree, but I tend to think that orange mixed in with the red gives the best highlight. The grey will usually end up a bit more pink/purple, but it is good for a colder looking highlight. Hear da Lamentation
Thanks for the comprehensive answer there ironbear. With highlighting using white then washing red d@n, isn't that still going to produce pink? Or have you found it different?
