Deathwing WIP

DreadLift

Recommended Posts

So after having enough of Blood angels and managing to avoid the GK band wagon I decided to try Deathwing. I have had a DW army before but I was made an offer and well much to my regret sold the lot. So starting again. Making the plunge with a LR 1st and this time round I am going for a grimy dirty look. I freely admit I am not the best painter around but I do try :)

C and C welcome as long as your willing to help with some friendly advice too :)

bearing in mind this is very much still WIP. What do you think so far ?

That's one mean looking DW Raider... keep us posted on other items as you do them :).

Nearly forgot to say: some of the weathering looks a little harsh – it might be something you intend to fix, but on paint chips, just a dab of boltgun metal to the centre of the brown patches – it helps to lighten the overall effect.

Another method that gives a much more softer and random effect is sponging - (shameless tutorial plug here) - and it is quick to apply. it also demonstrates how to add the boltgun metal as I suggested above.

Cheers

I

If my deathwing let their Holy Landraider get that rusty they'd be sent to 'chamber 42' for some 'corrective' therapy ;)

Aye, or get the techmarines out there with the touch up paint, polish, soapy water and sponges :P

Vehicles can be on campaign for a long time - they're bound to get a little rough around the edges. Personally I love the worn look - I'm not a fan of showroom condition 40k ;).

Another couple of hours this afternoon while Dread jr is napping ;) I have continued the weathering to the front of the ramp and the top of the raider.

Isiah I have tried the sponge effect on other vehicles, either its because I am so cack handed or I am just not getting it but I am not fond of the technique. As you may be able to see I have softened the ageing / rust around the side door as I agreed with the comments that it was rather heavy. So I dialled that back a bit. I have also done the headlights and started the hatch with the storm blotter attached. So far I am having lots of fun ;)

I have also added some blazing orange (watered down 50/50) to the bolt edges to give a more rusted look. These boys are going to look like they are on campaign so no sparkly and clean im afraid. I picked up my 1st box of assault TDA today and I have some scibor resin extras ordered too.

Once again C and C always welcome

Cheers

So I was thinking although I was "quite pleased" with the weathering it still made the tank look somewhat static. I dug out my weathering powders and using a technique from IMPERIAL ARMOUR MODEL MASTERCLASS VOLUME ONE, I set about mixing up 2 of the powders with thinners. Then using a knackered old brush and a slot base, I flicked on 2 layers of "mud".

I think it looks better now and I will now start on the other side of the tank. I think if I do any more weathering it will start to look over done. :)
