Anyone using Karamazov?

I found a Karamazov model in storage and was just wondering if anyone has used him with the new rules. I'm assuming he can use the OB while moving because of relentless, however based on what Ward has done to us so far could be a bad assumption. Anyway, I was just wondering if he was worth the points, especially since he doesn't have a ++ save.

Yep, that would be a bad assumption. Relentless allows the firing of Heavy weapons after moving; OB is not a Heavy weapon, and its rules state the model cannot have moved in the same turn you wish to fire it.

Aside from that, I believe he's worth the points, but I can't back it up from experience :)

I use him with interceptors. He's great, they shunt between two tanks spread out. Then he uses the lance strike which hits one guy but two tanks, the guy gets cover and dies less than half the time the tanks cop a beating and at least 1 blows. Interceptors shoot everything inside if its a transport.

I find him great at using that OB on interceptors, people never expect it.

He has rad grenades which is good, his multi melta is very usefull and if he gets a cover save he is great with paladins to eat las cannon wounds much like drago.

Have Tried once so far. I think Karamazov is worth his points (more than let's say Stern) but needs cunning tactics like Crynn have, to be useful. I did win the game (first with new codex) but can't really remember much about it. If I rememeber right Karamazov was in close combat with Daemon Prince, which took him down at the end. I'm considering using him again when I get more crusaders and so I can allocate all saves to them (from shooting). Maybe add some flagellants and death cultits.

...And it is such a cool model :cuss

Edit: Karamazov did use his Orbital Borbartment but after scattering did kill nothing but own units, I think it was something like four or five models! Of course I was using OB pretty stupidly anyways so!

Poor, poor Karamzov. :'(

I used to lvoe this guy so much! The only Imperial MC! I desperately wanted him to lose the "Can only be used in a WH army of 1500 points+", and even went so far as to run WH parent lists and ally in GKs, just to use him.

Even with the mistake to his stats (his Warrior Henchman should have given him a WS5...).

But now.

Oh my how has he been nerfed...

He's a shadow of his former glory, and only really useful in 2 situations.

1: You're running Draigowing with two large Swuads of Paladin. You use Karamzov in the second to provide T5 to soak some S8 Melta/ML hits.

2: You plan to drop non scattering Lance Strikes on your own troops. For giggles.

How the mighty have fallen...

Did you read the same article by Zjoekov that recommended this tactic? Have to say it got me curious too though I haven't gotten around to testing it - 450 points on HQs is too monstrous for games under 2000 points. T6 would have made it more palpable. I do agree that it's a shame he's slightly lost some of his shine with his recent incarnation.

"The orbital strike relay is treated as a ranged weapon that can be used provided that the bearer did not move in the preceding movement phase (though he can later assault if the controlling player wishes)."

Nope, even though he's a MC he can't move and fire it.

Sadly, he is no longer a MC. It seems he traded that for Independent Character, which changes him completely. I finished building and painting him a few weeks ago. He is definitely a pain to build. I usually like metal, but if anyone needs to be resin or plastic, it is Karamazov.

you do know that if he drops OB on a friendly model it does not scatter, right?

or was that the what you were doing wrong?

I did disembark Warband and of course they were not in base contact with the enemy unit. Karamazov used his OB (lucky strike boosted with sense of humour) and it did scatter into my warband unit (as they were on assault range). Note that this unit was Daemonhosts, Argo-flagellants, Crusaders and maybe some others too. This was my first game with new codex and old models:) What a great unit it was. They did charge against Khârn and berzerkers....

As said what a great unit it was. I was lucky thou that mister throne did help me! funny thing was that daemonhosts were greatest in this whole Chaotic-mess-of-flails-und-blasts as they managed to make some great shots!

But yes, I was dreaming of using that does-not-scatter ability....

Edit: That game was draw at the end! Thanks to my two land raiders which were unharmed in the end with their fortitude :)
