Nasty tactic, anyone else come across this.

Last night I came aross a tactic that was nasty.

Surround a Landraider with what ever you can, making sure you block the exit points, then try and get a wrecking hit.

As the transported unit can`t get out they are lost too.

Anyone else come across this type of tactic?

I told my opponent about this tactic when we were talking about downsides to the land raider before a game once.... Bad Idea. He spent the entire game trying to wrap units around it and blow it up. Worked out ok for me though as he never managed it and my other units massacred him. Still there were some squeaky bum time moments that almost lost me logan, arjac and my other terminators :D

Yes I got caught in two rhinos by a chaos player and lost two packs of grey hunters :D

Re read the rules about "Emergency disembarkation" .

If all the exits are blocked you can place your models within 2" of the tanks hull.

He CAN'T kill everyone in the tank just by blocking the exits.

It's not anything new. You can do this to any transport that is not open topped

As implied I've never let anything behind my transports (ok I have only one and it ain't marine) but a land radar? It usually has enough guns on it to stop this sort of thing and you can always death or glory. (god I sound like a t**t here, sorry)

I wasn't saying anything about you. Just saying that this can be done to an transport that's not open topped. And it's not something that you should really be going for since you will get ripped apart if it doesn't happen

Yes there is that. But if you can't be 1" away you die. In the case of the rhino you are what, leaving 1 guy?

It says "anywhere within 2" of the hull" not the doors/exits so 5 termies wouldn't be enough to surround a Rhino.

After the guy did this to me I asked the others at my club, they all said you can get out using the emergency disembark rule.

You can get out after the tank has been wrecked with missile launchers but not because there is a nasty wittle ork blocking the door?

Come on!

In a friendly game it's a pretty cheap tactic to use.

Just trying to understand if blocking the doors only works, no bothered by the tactic just that we played it right.

I am at work atm so I will check the referances and rules "Emergency disembarkation"

when I get home.

Thanks for all the help

blocking the doors only forces emergency disembarkation. To wipe them out entirely you have to surround the vehicle (so no passenger can get out within 2 inches of the hull)

Its legal. You surround the tank totally and they cant get out. A model can never be within 1" of an enemy model unless assault has been initiated. So if the tank is surrounded there is no way the unit can be within 2" of the vehicle and not be within 1" of an enemy unit, so the embarked unit is destroyed.

As a side note this works well with Storm Ravens and other vehicles with a base that they disembark from. And with 15 man Blood Claw units this is a sneaky one for us.

I use to do this all the time. Falcons and waveserpents were the easiest. Which is why they made it anywhere in 2" of the hull. But it has to die and not blow up. So only a 17% chance of the result you want.

Still back in the day I use to smoke some Eldar like this.

Those were good days... *sips ale and wonders down memory lane*

Its more an opportunist tactic than one that should be planned, but worth knowing if you see the right situation in a game.
