henrywalker
so i normlly paint and base my models like this. flock (sand), spray primer, paint however i occasionally get impatient (like if i'm out of pva) and i spray then flock then i just paint black over the base. (i should point out that i use army painter plate mail primer for the model but chaos black for the base) this was fine for individuals but, after a month with no access to white glue or sand (i was bedridden :D ) i now have about 50 models sprayed silver and flocked over the top. now for my question, how can i quickly paint the bases of these models without going insane? i find that the sand absorbs a lot of paint and is irritating to actually paint. is there an easy way is my question i guess. sorry for the lack of clarity Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/231307-undercoating-bases/ Share on other sites
Lorenzen
remove the models from their bases, spray all the bases whatever colour is required, drybrush, reatatch models. either that or paint the base layer with a foundation style paint. henrywalker
mmnn, those had been my plans really, although removing the bases is always a right bugger to do. I was thinking of using badab wash either before or after painting chaos black, hoping that it would fill in all the cracks. Durus
If you can't take the models off the bases or are worried about messing up the models first use a smaller brush to paint around the feet on every mini and then quickly do the rest of the bases with a bigger brush. Big brushes can save a lot of time. I've used black ink occasionally to break the surface tension of paint, in order to get paint in all the cracks but a bit of detergent is just as good. miniaturepainter
Paint on a gloss coat over your base, reapply paint. Like... 'ardcoat (Dunno if they make it anymore. Water it down so it doesn't look like shinny metal oatmeal) flat black after they've dried or whatever color you prefer.
