FenrisWolf
I use a scheme like Firenze as well. Chaos black undercoat, Adeptus Battle grey, then a badab black wash. Chapter Master Ignis Domus
I do the same, but with a heavy drybrush of fortress grey, causing a cloudy effect on the armor. Grizzly
Yes, I will be doing something similar, but I have been thinking about another color on the shoulder pads instead of gray like the rest of the armor. Chapter Master Ignis Domus
Try Mechrite red. I goes quite well with the gold and grey. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/231334-space-wolves-colors-advice/page/2/#findComment-2787301 Share on other sites
MalachiOfRuss
I use a darker "flat" grey on mine: I use Delta Ceramcoat paints (so much cheaper than GW), and the colour I found that I liked for the base armor was called "Hippo Grey." It didn't sound particularly aggressive, but it works. I use a colour one shade lighter, "Rain Grey," for drybrushing and highlights. Grizzly
That is a nice darker red but I really don't want too use red nor the yellow. Seen some models with black shoulder pads, kind of like that, or may stick to greay pads overall. Too bad there is no blue, kind of like blue and think it goes well with greys. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/231334-space-wolves-colors-advice/page/2/#findComment-2788478 Share on other sites
MalachiOfRuss
Hey, if you want blue on your shoulderpads - you go right ahead. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/231334-space-wolves-colors-advice/page/2/#findComment-2788512 Share on other sites
Grizzly
;) ... I just might. Was playing around with the SM painter for like the 150th time and kind of like how the blue looked on a darker grey. Fluff- After years of endless fighting without seeing Fenris, they ran out of red and yellow paint and had to resort to using blue!!!  (joking) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/231334-space-wolves-colors-advice/page/2/#findComment-2788605 Share on other sites

WG Vrox
Truly the best advise is to look at the painted army sticky and page through it until you find something you like, there is about every shade of grey you can think of available in there. Â Find the look you want and if you want and PM the person and ask them what they used. Â I personally went with a lighter blue grey kinds like a dolphin grey, just pops better for me on the table than the darker grey style. I find that tables are always poorly light and having something that is easily seen usually gets it a better score. Â Yes, it works very well.. and likely since it's here at the Fang, you're asking about Adeptus Battlegrey and Fenris Grey; both of which work very well. I prefer to brush my foundations on rather than spray primer them because spray cans are tempermental and I can thin the foundation paints for a smoother coverage if I want. Also, it's easier for those nooks and crannies should you glue the model first. Â I can also attest to Tallarn Flesh working well if you've already fully primed the model and wanna go back to the flesh tones, without having a grey undertone. Same situation for Dheneb Stone and Iyanden Darksun (for going back in to brighten things like yellow shoulderpads or bones/skulls). Â so it would just be easyer to not primer them but primer like say heads. yea im going with the grey/grey. and i havent painted in a while i just wanted to make them as nice as my skill lvl would alow me. so lets say i prime black then add the foundation or would that be way to much? Â It wouldn't be too much. Outside of being a foundation primer, Adeptus Battlegrey is the darkest non-mixed grey you can get, so if you're building layers, it's the same.. viscosity? as the other citadel paints. I like foundation paints because they're foolproof. IMO it's (relatively) safe to spray prime pieces that are large, or flat, or generally don't have too much detail that a temperamental spray nozzle could clog up. You're welcome to continue trusting spray paints (I'm sure some people here swear by them), but the safest method for a smooth foundation is the.. err.. foundation paints... Â Edit: ...or airbrushes (in before troll!) Wulfebane
You'll run through it fast, especially if you get addicted to it and start using it on everything (tanks, etc.) so I recommend multiple bottles if you're gunna be leaving the mainland right away.
