A Chapter Serf (previously a Watcher)

Hi there,

I picked up some models to stand as watchers to work as objectives/bases... here is the one I painted today.

The robes started with dark green and layering up to scorpion green.

The flesh with flat tan and rotten flesh.

The book with dark brown, sand and white.

Ideas/suggestions to get a "cleaner" model appreciated ;)

It's a nice looking model but it has one major flaw as a watcher model. You are never supposed to be able to see what type of creature is inside the robe of a watcher model, so fluff wise this does not at all fit with the DA background. You'd be better off calling it a chapter serf.

this and what model is that?

I'd go with calling him a chapter serf - he's pretty much a spit for some artwork out there. :woot:

Language issues... does it mean that by using this model I'm wrecking the Watcher's fluff?

TBH, I'm not that concerned about being strict about fluff... but I agree with you guys: if we do things, lets do them right :) So topic changed and...

I'm a bit "worried" it looks...not exactly flat, but I don't think you can tell I put into him 2 hours of layering with the green :D Any ideas of how to make him pop more? I was thinking going more extreme on highlights... even do a golden rim on the hood.

Also, comments on the face? That DOES look flat IMO.

No, he means he looks exactly the same as some artwork of a chapter serf. A spit is slang for a 'spitting image' – meaning two things that look very alike.

The darkest parts of your miniature could be more dark in my opinion. ( pure dark angel green or even mixed with a drop of black in it)

The face looks very good I think (I wish I'd be able to paint eyes, right now I just skip them). You could give the face a light wash of orgryn flesh but again, it already looks pretty good, cause I imagine a servant to never be much exposed to the sun in his life.

Also, good choice to make it a serf more than a watcher. (watchers are kinda bodyless creatures made of pure magic)

I'd try doing a dark wash of the cloak maybe using badab black or the other common one I forget the name of lol. Then do another highlight pass with your lightest color of it. That could help it to pop more. The face looks fine but I saw a good technique you could try. Give it a wash of gyphon sepia and then highlight with tallarn flesh or something lighter depending on how pale you want him to be.

I agree that the robe needs more shading, not highlights. A black or dark green ink should sort that out. I suggest you thin the ink first so you don't accidentally overdo it. The flesh looks great. Like Hugebill says, he probably isn't very healthy.

I expect to see an excellent illuminated manuscript on those pages.
