Sharp's Salamander Army

Hey guys! It's been a very long time since I've posted here. In fact, I think the last time I posted the PC&A only had one section!

Anyway, I'm finally working on some power armour again and I decided to build up a Salamanders army like I had when I was a kid. I'm working on a 1500 pt army to bring to Astronomi-con Toronto this weekend... and there is still quite a bit to do.

That's enough Intro then, onto the pictures!

(images are linked to the appropriate posts on my blog. There is more details about the models there as well as more pictures)

(It has a magnetized dozerblade as well)

To preemptively answer some questions:

All the bases come from Secret Weapon Miniatures.

The Salamanders Shoulderpads, Storm Shield and Extra Armour on the Razorback and Drop Pod come from Chapterhouse Studios.

I hope you guys like them!

Looks really nice. Love the extra armour on the RB and Pod. Not so sure about the blue-green combo on the Librarin tough. I dont think the two colours fit that well together.

Natanael beat me to it, I love the extra armour on the DP & RB! Really makes them stand out - acts as an extra set of protective armour I guess? Nice way of making them look unique. The libby looks pretty dang impressive!!!

Thanks dude!

I agree with the Librarian colours, but I'm trying to make it work. I don't want an all-blue Librarian so this is really my only option.

I think it's working so far, but once the other colours get finished it will hopefully tie in a little better.

Here's what I've been working on the past few days:

I'd have to agree with the comment about the libbi....I think one blue shoulder pad would've been fine enough to make him have the 'codex' libbi colours and maybe had the robes red.

Great minis though none the less and the Sterngaurds bolters are great.

Yeah, a pad in blue might be enough. And also, arent salamanders supposed to have black backpacks? Very nice Mk III anyway! =)

This is true to any rank in a salamanders force.....and areas of their power packs are painted black to.

Thanks for all the comments guys. Glad you like them.

As you can see, I'm not going with perfect codex colours. I've taken the idea of the right pad colour denoting Rank and ran with it a bit to actually encompass the whole right arm. So the libi has the arm blue, and the tactical Sgt's will have their right arm Orange as well. I have a Apothecary model I'm using as a normal bolter marine that has his right arm white.

Also, because I'm not going full-codex I can take these liberties. The backpacks are a good example of this, so while there still is a lot of black on their packs, there is still plenty of green. Even just using Orange as my tertiary colour is non-codex, as they have no Orange company (closest would be 3rd company which is yellow)

I thought I saw an Index Astartes pic floating around somewhere of a Salamanders Librarian that has a scheme very similar to mine, just can't find it again. I ended up going with that anyway (and the blue robes) since it would go well with the Orange (while red robes wouldn't). Plus looking online at many other Salamander's Librarians, this was the scheme I liked the best. Any more or less blue just didn't look right to me.

Maybe next time I should consult the B&C over how to paint librarians and backpacks before I start a project, just to avoid these nitpicks :)

Really digging the Salamander love! One thing you might consider doing is grabbing some Dark Elf Corsair cloaks to use for your sergeants ;)

Oh yes, that was the plan. But now I'm just down to adding them to my characters. (You can just make one out behind the Libi)

Very clever conversions and a sharp paint job!

I see what you did there! ;)

Thanks guys.

i think you can make the libby in TDA work but you need to off set the blue of EITHER the cloth or the armor. Personally i would darken the armor, or lighten the cloth with washes.

Maybe battle scar the armor heavily then wash it with a couple of times with black or brown...

I've took today off to finish up my army since Astronomi-con is tomorrow. I've been painting all day and I took a break to take some quick pictures. The colours are all off in these shots, but whatever.

I should have mentioned that most of the models were already mostly done this morning.

The 10 marines and Sternguard only needed highlights and some minor details.

The other 10 marines and all the bases were about half done.

I wish I could get it all done from primer in one day

Looks great all together :tu; I really like the skull on the librarian and you use of orange instead of bronze.

Will you be adding any more to the army?

Vulkan

Thanks man,

I will be adding more. This 1500pts is just for Astronomi-con Toronto that starts today.

I have plans to add a few more units, such as some Thunderhammer terminators, a Predator, as well as a few more HQ choices.
