build a better DC Tycho...

Recommended Posts

hey B&C...

after nine months of being MIA, moving to Mexico and getting my surf shop runnin' smooth ( http://www.quiverito.com/ ), i'm back with my next marine project...

i have been tasked with recreating the pose and details on Tycho from the artwork in his Codex entry...

i have a feeling we are not allowed to post GW artwork on here, but needless to say it's a pretty cool drawing...

using all plastic parts, i will be able to get a less rigid looking pose than the old metal sculpt...

here are the first parts i chose to work with:

i have since chosen the heads, and had to change the piece i will be using for Tycho's left arm...

i started my mock-up to work out the height that Tycho will have to be at to stand on a dead Chaos Marine:

as you can see, the legs i chose worked out nice, with just one simple cut required to get my pose...

here are the next two stages of the mock-up:

that's it for now...

there will of course be a lot of little tweeks with the angles of everything, since everything is loose and unglued in these pics.

all i have to do now is choose the arms for the Chaos Marine, and build up the base around him so it doen't look like Tycho just happened to find a cheesy little pinnacle of rock to stand and pose on...

so, arms on the CM, and shoulder pads for everyone, next time...

once the mock-up is all worked out, then the sculpting will begin...

thanks for lookin'...

cheers

Decent mock up - I like the way the model is headed. One concern though - wouldn't in be more in keeping with Tycho to have a greenskin at his feet?

As far as I know about Tycho the above statements are both true....but I do havE a feeling the picture you are modelling him on has him standing over a burnt out chaos marine

Nice work so far fella...keep it up.

The pose looks a bit unnatural because of the way you posed his arms and head.

If he is resting, why is his left foot about to lift off from the ground and not flat? And if he is moving forward, why is he looking the other way and has his arms hanging down? The way he is now, he looks a bit undecided.

EDIT: And I had a look at the homepage of your shop, that's a really cool homepage, although I didn't know renting/buying surfboards was that expensive. Still pretty cool, though :P

thanks for all the constructive comments...

i know that the black and white artwork printed in the BA Codex is actually for the non-DC Tycho, thus he is standing on a dead CM...

the full color version is on Adrian Smith's website, and Tycho is golden...

the customer asked me to use the artwork as reference, but he may be up to having an Ork on the base, as it is more "fluff-centric"...

the pics are just a mock-up for me to see if all the parts i chose will work...

the angles that they sit at now will not be the final pose...

there is a lot of tweeking still to be done...

then comes the sculpting...

@Cathar: not all surfboards are as expensive as mine...

my shop is more of a boutique of high end, custom, and collectible boards...

rare items that a customer would not be able to ride normally

@Verpine: you noticed the untitled document tag, huh?

that has been annoying me since we launched the new site a few weeks ago...

my girlfriends brother built the site, and can't find the mistake he made in the coding...

still tweeking the site though, so we should get the little bugs worked out...

alright, i'm off to get some work done on his guy...

thanks again for the critique...

cheers
