Building a better DreadKnight

Well it seems once again my students have come to decimate the teacher. My friend Daniel is the newest convert to 40k, taking up Daemons. However, he loves his Monstrous Creatures, having Khairos, two Princes and a Soul Grinder. I need a DreadKnight to counter them, but I cannot stand the model. There is a representation I do like, the artwork of a DreadKnight on the first few pages of the codex showing a smaller DreadKnight where the Terminator's legs go into the DreadKnight's legs. How hard would this be to achieve short of major conversion work as i am not that skilled.

very hard... :tu: you must learn to love the dreadknight....actually after you paint it up it sorta grows on you,im really liking mine now that its nearly finished!

cheers Mithril

Yes please <_<

Can you perhaps post a quick "How To" or steps you took on that Synack?

I also don't like the DK model and most of my dislike stems from the front Termie "baby carrier" look. I also am not one much for modding so I'm trying to gauge how hard this type of conversion would be.

Thanks much (in advance).

Wait, you're playing Grey Knights and losing to Daemons? I don't think Dreadknights will solve that problem...

As for your converting challenge, maybe some Greenstuff and Dreadnaught leg guards? Not exactly sure if it would work, don't have a Dreadknight to see if they scale right. I would imagine it could though.

Synak, love the conversion. One very small suggestion though. Chop off the foot-stirrup things on his legs. With no termy feet to attach to them, they're just kinda sticking out for no reason.

I personally love the dreadknight model, but hated the pose. Thus, I spent all weekend chopping it apart at the joints and re-posing it, without any major changes to the design. It looks a helluva lot better now! I'll post pictures once it's painted.

As for the conversion you're asking about, it would be pretty tough. The legs attach in a pretty forward position, so there's no easy way for them to feed in to the dreadknight knees like in that illustration. I'm sure a creative converter could find a way, but even for someone with lots of experience it'd be really difficult.

The conversion looks as though it slots in directly over where the terminator normally sits. I suspect there was plenty of cutting of the dread torso to make it slot in correctly and some putty to block the gaps. He even left the Foot stirrups on for some reason. So it looks as though its relitively simple. Some careful cutting and putty work and you're good to go :D
The Venerable plus Dreadknight thing looks extremely cool if you take it even further. One I saw replaced the entire front with the Sarcophagus, the fists with the claws, and put the Dreadnought hip/waist in between the body and legs. It goes from looking like a Tonka toy with a baby carrier to an archaic war machine as venerable as it is deadly. I only made one, but thanks to magnets I use it for all my Venerables and Dreadknights because it looks unspeakably badass. I know there's a picture or five floating around of what that looks like, because that's where I got the idea.

In that case I wouldn't stress over it. Chaos Daemons are rather...lacking, just make sure you've got Warp Quake going and they'll practically kill themselves. Don't NEED a Dreadknight to kill them, don't even NEED Grey Knights to do so either.

Dreadknights are pretty cool though in that they're an MC in a Marine Codex, but that's about all I can say about them.
