HOLY SHIIIIII---...

Looks like I have been away from the BnC for a very long time.

AJ, fantastic painting mate. The detail in the scenic base is definitely better than any of the bases I have ever done haha!! Good work on the marine as well man. You sir have improved. Probably even past me.

Now I wait for the better photos.

Glad to see your still lurking around victor!

When I saw you had posted I was ready for a longpost of criticism haha :HQ:

Glad that you like it. You really should post more often you know.

I'll have better pictures up tonight for sure. I need to pick up glue to finish the first 5 Templars. They need to be paint ready tonight for me to stay on schedule!!

Okay, well how to start this post. I guess I should explain my challenge right now.

For those who don't know, Armies on Parade is the yearly GW contest to display your army. It starts in local stores and if you win there you can continue to compete at Games Day. I am only hoping to win at store level, namely because I want the two free tickets to Games Day Chicago.

This leads to my dilemma. I have exactly 10 days to paint at least 3 units and a 2'x2' display board. Right now, my selection was starting with 5 Assault Marines, a Land Raider, and the Emperors Champion, making a nice little Black Templar's Army, namely because the Land Raider has Templar door panels already on it. But now it has expanded to 10 Marines with bolter's, and 10 with close combat weapons, plus a Chaplain made from the Skullz promotional Marshall. I acquired the new models plus a Land Raider today on my lunch when I went to get glue to finish the other Marines.

So now I have to strip the new models, see if the second Land Raider is salvageable for use in 10 days, and decide how to base and do the display base.

The plus side is I'm ready to strip models and begin the greenstuff work on models that don't require stripping.

But I thought I would give you guys a special treat. Just to show why such a small amount of models is a challenge for me.

Starting with the force set out on a 1' tray to see how they look. I did a bunch of conversion work to the new marines to make them look better than the static marines I acquired.

Now to show how slow of a painter I am. I've had my display case for almost a year. These are the only models I have in it, I painted about 20 Blood Angels and sold them, so they aren't in there anymore. But this is my finished case, only finished models or models that require little details added are here.

And now, as promised, here is a new picture of the banner. I hope it comes out better than the other pictures. But without doing a proper photography set up, I don't think it'll get better! :)

Finally, my work station in the kitchen of my house. I overfilled the table and sprawled onto the counter, the spare room, and my bedroom. :)

Well I hope you all enjoy my long post!

Oh and Victor, I sent you a PM. I have a new MSN account so I need yours again.

Dude, I absolutely love how that banner bearer is turning out. The blue armor looks like it'll make you a solid contender.

Point of criticism, and please take this as constructive: your display base seems flat. All that care being put into the armor, and the luminous effect of the banner bearer makes the flatness of your base stick out like a sore thumb, and I think it'll hurt your chances t the golden daemon. I don't know how to go about changing it though. Maybe some water effects (shimmer/glisten) and some more contrast on the rats (like contrast with them as discrete models, as they already contrast with the base as a whole beautifully) or some gore on the skeletons.

Hope that helps inspire you and best of luck.

Cheese mate I much appreciate the input. I do plan on adding a layer of clear resin water to the bottom of the base. It's one of the last things to do.

Unfortunately as this isn't my golden demon entry, I'm not as concerned about the contrast in the base. This one is going into a local competition called The Painting Fanatic.

But I do appreciate your thoughts and ideas on how to improve it and will definitely take them into consideration when building the bases for my official demon entries. :)

Unfortunately I only have 2 entries that are board appropriate. :)

Suppose I should start a real blog for the rest?

Keep the comments coming, they keep me working! ;)

Haha, no worries. And oops, I read the topic title and assumed, and you know what happens when you assume... And if you do make a site/topic for your other entries, link it in your signature, cause I'd love to see them.

I will definitely make a blog for my non-PA stuff when it comes around don't worry!

But now I need serious advice, banner colours!! What colour should the banner be?

And for a moment to show off a friends model. It's named after my online persona.

Thank you Jeff!

If this was a gd entry then I would make more comments however for a local contest it looks fine. Maybe the composition if a bit off with the colour of red/purple to the blue. The red/purple seems a but dull in shade. Some of the recesses could use a bit more shading. The base however is gd ready.

The standard disclaimer. Could just be the photography.

No your definitely right, the red needs more shading to pop more, and if I can I would like to add it.

As for the base being GD ready, it's far from it. I've just managed to hide my mistakes with grass and similar stuff, but there are a lot of mistakes I make on it.

The colour choices were to try to avoid the usually Ultramarine colours, and I think it looks enough like one without being the same as everyone else's!

Quick update on status progression. I got the first 14 Black Templar's primed, so tonight and tomorrow I'm going to work on churning them out at a relatively quick pace so I can move onto the last 6 marines, the Chaplain, and the Land Raider.

I still need basing ideas, and relatively cheap material for a 2'x2' display base.

I should have some pictures up tonight depending on how much progress I make on a test model.

Well here is my test scheme. The problem is I have decided if I continue with this scheme, then I am going to have to trade into a different unit type. I'm thinking of 10 Terminators and a Dreadnought instead of the original 22 Marines and a Land Raider. I'll be waiting for your opinions tonight to decide!

I got really carried away with freehand on him so far! That's why I think the unit change is required! 10 Terminators gives me more time for freehand than the original set up!

I still need to figure out a base and a 2'x2' display board. I'm thinking just snow bases with this scheme.

I love the new scheme. Especially the freehand, the shading on the shoulder pad cross looks awesome. Seems to me that 2 units of 5 terminators and a land raider, if you could swing it, would be awesome.

As for the display board, snow could look awesome. Here's and idea I just had looking at the test model: Throw in some burning craters from recent shelling and make a naked tree or two and some abandoned gear (backs, weapons, canteens, a skull) and you've got a simple, characterful base. Have them stalking through a frozen wasteland that gives off a vibe of inhospitability that would tell a great narrative.

Hope that helps get the creative juices flowing.

It definitely does, unfortunately with time constraints and supplies on the low, I don't know that I can do that detailed of a base. I can probably make it fly on 10 Terminators. I'll see what I can do on a super budget though. Maybe 2'x2' board and some Spackle or something plus dirt and an airbrush! :)

Yeah, it can get expensive. Although if you have spackle and some wire lying around, then everything but the abandoned gear is doable. at the very least a contoured board would look good. I can't wait to see what you decide on.

Well my plan is to try to trade in all the stuff I can't use for this project at the comic shop I got it from. I'll either go for Terminators or a Dreadnought. I'm thinking a Furiouso Dreadnought though.

The Terminators I can get when I head out to the Games Workshop.

But Sunday is dedicated to the display board. I'll be visiting Home Depot and Lowes for supplies.

Oh, and the Ultramarine should be done tomorrow night. Fingers Crossed!

Well guys, here is the finished Banner. I'll post better pictures shortly, but for now these will have to do as my AC is broken and my house is to hot to sit by my lamps.

Now to build 15 Terminators and a Dreadnought! :)

Let me know what you think!
