Road to the Demons

Recommended Posts

Well my lunch break was successful! I got to the comic shop, got details on the 2000pt tournament in July, and got the snow to do the bases. Did the Captains base. Needs another layer, but it's getting there.

Now for the picture, then back to the office till 7!

I decided on simple snow, since it seems to contrast well with the miniature and should contrast well with the display base. Plus it only takes me 5 minutes per base!

If you're willing to do a little more work (another 5 minutes + dry time) a really awesome technique to break up the monotony of a snow base is to make a 50/50 glue/snow (or sand for the first layer) mix, then clump it all the over the base, creating irregularities. Then, flock it like any normal base with snow, and you've got an irregular snow base. Not that it doesn't look awesome as is, the snow contrasts really well with the dark tones on the model.

You're kicking my butt! Hopefully tonight I'll get to strip all the tactical/devestator marines I'm painting for our challenge.

Well a bit of an update! :)

So the Captain and I went on a road trip.

To visit the display table drying at my parents house.

And now is in the process of being finished.

http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/oo161/WarForgeStudios/75842396.jpg

So we went home and painted and finished the legs of the Dreadnought.

So tomorrow I will finish the upper body and the base of the Dreadnought and work on some Terminators.

The display board should be finished tomorrow! :)

Dude, doing awesome! I'm about to start the other 30 power armor marines in earnest. I can't wait to see these guys finished. I really like that fluer de lis on the dread's leg.

Well here is the update. After 2 and a half hours, the Dreadnought torso is finished minus some weather pigments to add when the whole thing is complete.

I am super happy with it if I do say so myself. The gold trim spawned from not sure how I wanted to highlight the armour panels and I think it came out good!:cuss

Enjoy! I'm off to pick up my Display board from my Dads house since it is now dry!

Looks awesome dude. The colors all come together really nicely. I finally got some work on 12 of the 35 for my side of the race... that's okay though, it goes super quick when work/road trips don't get in the way, so I'm still in this. Once my camera is charged I'll put up picks. Can't wait to see your finished board man.

Thanks mate! Unfortunately I'm not fast enough yet! The deadline is quickly approaching and I am trying to figure out where everything fits in at!

But I do have an update, and it's one step closer to the big picture!

http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/oo161/WarForgeStudios/be632910.jpg

http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/oo161/WarForgeStudios/823967a9.jpg

So that makes the HQ and one of two Unites complete. Minimum 5 Terminators to go! But the goal is all 15!

And when I took the clamps off the display board, the red paint stripped. Without the time to repaint and wait for it, I opted to repaint it to match the black.

The base is now done, which unfortunately is very bland. ;)

It needs a plaque or something!

Well now that I am home I managed to fix the bandwidth problem. I made a new photobucket and did the Pro upgrade to it. So we can now enjoy my new studios photobucket. Welcome to Mystik Sprial Studios.

I've been painting since 1997. :( Just a lot of practice. And I'm no where near as fast as I want to be! ;)

The blue is Chaos Black, Shadow Grey, and Hawk Turquoise, built in layers with Hawk being the final pure highlight. I'll usually throw in a Badab Black wash, and use the surrounding areas and colours to help make the armour pop. I'm really happy with the claw and the lascannon, minus the flawed armour panel on the lascannon casing. :(

I'm starting the 5 Assault Terminators right now. Should be through them tonight!

I saw, I meant to ask what contest he's for?

I guess its the finecast painting competition, dunno if all GWs do it. And thanks for the recipe I really want a change of color for a couple minis, all this red and off black is a bit tiring. If I dont have shadow grey what can I sub into it should I mix 2 gw paints?

Ah gotcha. That's what I painted the banner for. I hear you on one colour being tiring! :)

Hm well I believe there is a foundation paint similar in colour. But I like shadow grey because when mixed with black it isn't to much brighter than black itself.

Sorry I don't think I'm making much sense. I'm exhausted. Didn't get a squad done tonight, which means all nighter tomorrow to get 10 models done!

I've set my alarm for 2 hours before work so I can try to get some more work done.

Hey guys, well it is the big day! Armies on Parade and Painting Fanatic/Finecast Competition are today. I haven't slept yet, I spent the night painting my Terminators.

So here is the picture of the army on the table before I pack it up to head to the store.

http://i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd475/MystikSpiralStudios/cadb1e62.jpg

I'll take some pictures at the store today of my stuff as well as everyone's work!

So look forward to that!

Thanks mate, sorry it's been a while since I posted. I didn't win anything on Saturday which was a little bothersome. I'll have pictures later. But the class I am taking is inspiring me to not dwell on the past but the progress. (It's a class on being successful in business.)

And so in that respect, I'm writing a list for the 2K tournament on the 23, July. I bought 3 Razorbacks and 2 Rhinos for it and will being construction soon! They'll have fully detailed interiors and extensive freehand, and also be in the same scheme as my AoP army.

More soon guys I promise!
