HERO
Friendly game vs my friend at work at tuesday night gaming. The list I ran was the following: 198013 kp HQ: Wolf Lord (TH/SS, RA, WTN, WTT, Bear) = 230 Rune Priest (Chooser, WTN) = 120 TROOP: 9x Grey Hunters w/ WG (Rhino, PF/cbM, Meltagun, WS, MotW) = 243 9x Grey Hunters w/ WG (Rhino, PF/cbM, Meltagun, WS, MotW) = 243 8x Grey Hunters w/ WG (Rhino, PF/cbM, Meltagun, WS, MotW) = 228 ELITE: 7x WGT (All CbP, CF) = 281 in LRC (EA, MM) = 275 HEAVY: Predator (AC/LC) = 120 Predator (AC/LC) = 120 Predator (AC/LC) = 120 Darian ran..2x 7x Grey Knight Terminators Librarian 2x Stormravens Psyfleman Dread 10x Purifiers in a Rhino Dreadknight w/ Heavy Psycannon and Incinerator This will be a tactics overview because the game was pretty much a slaughter in my favor. Mission was Kill Points vs. Dawn of War. Darian got 1 KP from a Rhino at the end of the game to my 8 (leaving on the Dread alive) I have inserted 3 screenshots to help explain. First, a screen of the board we played on. For a board without any terrain from the closet, I actually REALLY liked it. It looked like a wild Tyranid Hiveworld with all the fauna coming out everywhere. A good amount of LoS blockers spread out evenly, a few patches of terrain (napkins) and a long lost Imperial missile silo in the middle. I made the board and I'm pretty proud of that. http://i55.tinypic.com/2cqxm9v.jpg The deployment being Dawn of War saw me get 1st turn. Since we were playing with the entire table and Dawn of War was killer for first turn shooting, I knew I was in a pretty safe distance. My Preds sat in the back to take advantage of their 48" range and they spread out pretty evenly to maximize pivot, but remain safe to side armor shots by the way Darian came on the board. Everything else smoked and took refuge and LoS blockers behind the huge alien plantlife. http://i51.tinypic.com/23vf688.jpg Once his Stormraven TB'd up the board, my Predators shot at it with everything and gave it 6 penetrating hits. It explodes shortly after. Return fire was minimized to the fullest because of range vs. his 48" Dread and AV13 in the front kept me relatively safe. This, as the Wolves like to call it, is setting the trap. We normally do this with Long Fangs, but Predators can also work at a discounted price. http://i56.tinypic.com/dhbx1s.jpg This is what us Wolves call, springing the trap. A is the LRC with Lord + WGT, D is the Rhino w/ Squad pack 1, B is squad pack 2, and C is squad pack 3 with the RP. The pink Xs are where the Terminators deepstruck in. B and C moved in such a way that the Rhinos blocked LoS to his Terminator squad (top X, not there anymore), and if he had to move and shoot, I would get cover for the Psycannons. With the top Terminator squad's ranged efficiency reduced dramatically, both squads B + C can pour all their fire in the bottom Terminator squad. Combined with the Preds, meltas and bolters, I reduce the squad to 4 dudes, plus they are now in difficult and dangerous cause of Murderous Hurricane. Btw, Darian made every single Terminator Invulnerable save. It was the bolters that actually forced enough wounds lol. So why isn't the top Terminator squad there and its replaced by my Wolf dudes? Because the LRC moved up, pivoted in such a way that it faced his Stormraven while letting my dudes disembark from the side hatch. I unload my WGT, and they combi-plasma the ;) out of his Terminators before charging them, annihilating the entire squad. Despite my best efforts, I could not kill that damn Stormraven with the Rhino's 2 shots with guys that moved 6" and the Pred. The guys on the table in the back are in transport D. So basically after decisively crushing 2 squads while taking almost no damage in return, this game was already going into a bad direction. Darian's attempts to cast sorcery was thwarted by my Rune Priest, his shooting was pitiful compared to my more experienced Grey Hunters, and his Storm Ravens came crashing down all over. His Purifiers eventually pushed up the board towards my bros by the top X, but my LRC pivoted w/ the Wolf Lord's squad and shot the beejesus out of them before charging in. They die like regular marines. I take the head of Darian's Librarian back to the Great Wolf and we feast, drink and arm wrestle. Grimtooth
Weight of fire always makes terminators roll 1's. Opponents who have a bunch of ss/th termies surviving plasma and melta get real pissed when rapid fire bolters and heavy bolters start dropping models. Hell, I dropped 5 frag templates on a bunched up deepstriking termininator assault squad and watched my opponent lost over half the squad when he had to roll so many saves and those pesky ones kept popping up. bl00d bath76
Not the most competitive of GK lists. Did a unit go in the other stormraven at all because from what i am seeing it was just empty which is a huge waste of points... HERO
Not the most competitive of GK lists. Did a unit go in the other stormraven at all because from what i am seeing it was just empty which is a huge waste of points... Indeed, god help those Inquisition bastards. I will say one thing though, the game was over in deployment. He chose to reserve 2 units of Terminators and fly his SRs (one in DS and one on the board). The Rhino drove and the Dread walked. This, vs the entirety of the SW army pre-assembled on the board and ready to react at a moment's notice is just a no-go scenario. How I would of played his list differently: Both SRs on the board TB and then have the Librarian cast Shrouding for 3+ cover on both vehicles. 7x Terminators is already a weird number and the Purifiers should of been put in one of the SRs I think. Drop the Psyflebro and bring both squads of Terminators up to 10, and drop that ridiculous Warding Staff on the HQ because it's a waste of points. Dreadknight, once again, didn't do what he's supposed to. Just give him Heavy Incinerator and that's it. Heavy Psycannon is ass imo, instead, find some points and give him Personal Teleporter so he moves 12" normally and 30" shunts. The game would of been much differently if I had 2 SRs flying at me with 3+ cover and a Dreadknight shunting up 30". So quick 40K tips: -Redundancy is good in 40K, more targets to shoot at and shoot with. -Deploy smart and in numbers. This game was pretty much won by the way you deployed. -10-man squads of Terminators needed, 2x Psycannons > 7x odd number with just 1. And another thing about GKs, look at the size of his army compared to mine in 2k points. The GK book was indeed made to feel very elite, and thus suffer the same problems that all elite armies do. Numbers. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/231561-recent-victory-over-gk/#findComment-2786308 Share on other sites
Adir
Your wolf list was interesting from the perspective that you used predators rather than long fangs - for that I applaud you  . But frankly a decent GK list should have mopped the floor with your rhinos. I have found new GK psycannons to be the death of mechanized lists. In fact I am hoping that the psycannon will help players re-think their reliance on transports and perhaps focus somewhat on how to make foot-based lists work. You should definitely help your friend tweak his GK list - add a GKSS squad and go with a 10 man GKT (combat squading as needed). Even though I was behind LoS or smoked for 3 turns, yes, he would have smoked my Rhinos once he saw them. Better Rhinos than my Grey Hunters imo :> Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/231561-recent-victory-over-gk/#findComment-2787221 Share on other sites
eyeslikethunder
I agree with Hero Yes the psycannons are Brilliant but only have 24 inch range. They kill rhinos very quickly but they kill marines even quicker. If used correctly your rhino can get you from outside their 24 inch range to inside 12 inches to unleach rapid fire death on them. Also Stormcaller does help tougthen up your rhinos. Using the LR to block LOS and give cover to your Rhinos certainly helps. In foot based lists you would just be badly outgunned by the grey knights between 12-24 inch range. You can also stay in transports also stop them charging you where they very lethal. It would very difficult to close the 12 inch gap where your firepower is superior to theirs without transports. I suspect you will just see either more LR's and/or long range firepower/plasma to counter the GK very high mid strength mid range firepower. Lots of long fangs would work against some builds of grey knights. But with the diversty of builds in the GK codex makes it hard to take about tactics for the codex as a whole. As tactics against all GKT list is very different to the all henchman list.
