WIP Imperial Building

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Yesterday me and my Fiancee picked up somefoam board with the intention of having a proper go at making some decent terrain for when we get round to gaming.

Whilst my Fiancee is currently assembling a rather cool looted guard outpost,i set about making a bombed out building for my Ultramarines to defend in battle.

It's going quite well i think, but i need some ideas for detailing the two larger walls.

Here are some pics:

As you can see a removable first flor for ease of moving models within the building and also so i can add extra furnishings.

This was my first attempt at making stairs, which was quite a learning experiance lol.

Sorry if this is in the wrong Sub-forum,wasn't sure where was the most appropriate palce to post these.

Comments and suggestions are very welcome

Cheers,

Mike

Very nice work! I love custom terrain, it's what makes the game so great IMO. In a previous life, before my divorce I built an entire cityscape out of foam board & it was extremely rewarding. I feel that when done well, like this, foam board buildings actually look better than GWs plastic cities of death ruins, not to mention much cheaper lol. Please post updates w/ paint!

As far as ideas, why not put a generator or a tool rack on one of them? The IG vehicle accessory sprue is great for the tools & gear you can install on it, then put some stuff on the floor like it rattled off when the building came under fire. If you go w/ a generator on the wall then you can put jerry cans & fuel drums in the building for additional character. I'd also think about putting windows &/or shell holes to shoot thru, in fact windows that have been damaged to combine them w/ shell holes look great.

It all really depends on what you want the building to BE in your mind's eye that decides how you detail it.

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions red_starrise.I do think i have some Guard bits in my box somewhere that i can dig out.

I was also thinking of trying to create a bank of computers to go against the inside of one of the walls. My Fiancee has some florists wire which I've heard makes convincing razorwire so I'll see about that too.

I would have loved to have seen that, sounds just like what we are planning on builinding(though half the buildings will be Ork-occupied(Ork-uppied???)).

Don't suppose you have any pics of your Foamboard creations?

Cheers,

Mike.

Looks really great :) If you are struggling for ideas (which at the moment your not) but good old sandbags can make it look great as well, but the computer idea is better.

Nice marines as well, so keep up the good work.

BAHAHAHA why Ultras? Im just messing with you. Very nice buildings. Where can I procure said "battlefoam"? I would suggest something as follows.... In Urban terrain, to me its all about knowing where to dig in and where to run through... plan this building accordingly. Do you want to hunker down and fight to the last man here? If not, and the idea is to move through quickly, knock down a wall so your boys can get in and out quickly. Or get picked up/dropped of by a vehicle.

Either way.. Very well done!
