Nikolakhs
Well, I finally got a new camera, so I decided to take some nice pictures to show y'all my progress with this army so far. I've still got a lot of building to do, and I have 4 squads of 7 that'll be WIP. I'm only putting the 2 finished vehicles right now, as everything else is till in the planning stages, but rest assured I'll add to this thread once I start getting things finished B) I want to have this army built by Christmas and as much painting as I can get done by then as well, and completely finished by late April. For this update, I give you a finished Hell Blade fighter, and a finished vindicator. tyrannosaurus
These are incredible man, I think the whole nurgle decay thing is way overdone but these are perfect. Love the eyeball and the guy in the tank. However my favourite pic is the front of the Hell Blade, that looks MEAN :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/231616-lords-of-decay-2012-blog/#findComment-2786546 Share on other sites

Nikolakhs
I'm just echoing everyone above, but I'll say it anyway: fantastic weathering. Do you happen to have a tutorial for that? Thank you all very much for all the kind words! I'm actually in the process of putting one together right now, so I'll get it uploaded once it's all done. I'm painting up a Rhino and a 2nd Vindi right now, and I'm assembling a squad of 7 PM's to accompany these guys. So I'll have pics of all of this soon! Thanks again for the kind words everyone! /b/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/231616-lords-of-decay-2012-blog/#findComment-2787801 Share on other sites

Nikolakhs
Awesome work! How did you do that eye? Modeling wise or painting wise? Modeling wise it's the circular light from the GW manufactorum kit, the one on the door on the right in this pic: http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_Custom...ain_873x627.jpg painting wise, it's a base of vallejo flat brown, and then on top of that a watered layer of 1:1 Flat brown + dead flesh, 2 coats of that mix, and to top it off a mix of Brown Sand, Dead Flesh, and white to get that last coat for the color. Add a pupil with flat brown, fill it in with dead flesh+flat brown lines in increasing brightness, add a black dot to the middle, and use Burnt Cadmium red to add some capillaries towards the outside of the eye. Easy peasy, right? ^_^ /b/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/231616-lords-of-decay-2012-blog/#findComment-2796714 Share on other sites
Nikolakhs
Well here's some WIP's of the squad that I'm working on right now, it's a hodgepodge mix of bits and greenstuff, but so far I like it. These are far from done, but this is just an update for where I'm at right now in the construction of the first 7 man squad in this army. Eventually the 4 7-man squads will be upgraded to 10-man squads, but again, that'll come eventually. Even though these guys are mixed, they don't really belong to the same squad, each squad will be themed, with one having FW torsos, another normal SM heads, another with zombie heads, and the fourth squad is to be decided. So here we go: Banner: http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/WIPBannerfront.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/WIPBannerside.jpg WIP Squad: http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/WIPSquadtop.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/WIPWholeSquadtop.jpg Bubbles: http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/WIPBubblesfront.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/WIPBubblesback.jpg Bursty: http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/WIPBurstyfront.jpg example of blight grenades on a plasmagunner: http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/WIPPlasmagunner1back.jpg Plasmagunners: http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/WIPPlasmagunner1front.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/WIPPlasmagunner2front.jpg Stabby, he's the most WIP of all of them: http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/WIPStabbyfront.jpg Better pictures of my Daemon Prince: http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/DaemonPrincefront.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/DaemonPrincewings.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/DaemonPrinceside.jpg C&C appreciated! /b/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/231616-lords-of-decay-2012-blog/#findComment-2798690 Share on other sites

Nikolakhs
@JackMatt: Those heads are Maxmini's zombie heads: Link they fit quite well on a space marine's torso. It's update time now! I'm going to try and post as many "completed" pictures as I can from now on, although I'll give WIP shots of troops and vehicles as they come. I bought a Hydra that distracted me recently, but I will be selling it off to fund the acquisition of the project that'll be replacing this Rhino since it's done: 4 Obliterators for $45 that will be the basis of my first ever terminator squad! I usually work on 2 completely different things at a time to increase efficiency and not get bored, so I'll be having some weird updates soon. Anyways though, without further ado, here's my completely refurbished and now almost new (not really) looking rhino : http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/Rhino1FrontTop.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/Rhino1RightSide.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/Rhino1LeftSide.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/Rhino1Rear.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/Rhino1Top.jpg And some details and action shots: http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/Rhino1Front.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/Rhino1RearDoor.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/Rhino1LeftSideActionshot-1.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/Rhino1BackLeft.jpg I'll be honest, I feel like I rushed this tank, it wasn't up to the same quality as my vindicator. But, nothing to be done about that now! It's done, I'm happy, I'll do better in the future :D  what I'm most proud of on this model: the headlights, the spikes bursting out, and the left side of the tank. I think I went a bit Overboard on the weathering on the front, but now I've learned what it looks like to do too much, so the other 3 rhinos won't suffer the same fate. Dark Sensei
Excellent ! Have you thought about using some gloss varnish ? I think it could bring a little something on some very limited parts (like the eyes). "The eyes, the flies, the eyes, the flies..." Nikolakhs
Yes, I've thought of gloss varnish and I'm looking to find a good one that's not too shiny, any suggestions? I was going to grab the vallejo one seeing as I don't have success with gw paint products. I've wanted to make the eyes glassy as well as some of the slimy skin parts and guts, I was just putting it off though  /b/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/231616-lords-of-decay-2012-blog/#findComment-2807867 Share on other sites
Dark Sensei
Hmmm you're a Nurgly player right ? You're ready for a fly-lord technique right ? Ok, Alan Carrasco (another adept of the holy 7 and a really talented one amongst all) uses nose sebum to give a limited glossy effect. Now you know the unbearable truth, live with it 8) GW gloss is really shiny but I've never tried a mix with water. Might work... Tamiya smoke could work too (a very thin layer, not enough to change the color underneath)... Now IMHO, a good glossy effect will strongly contrast with the mat surface around so I'd go to GW gloss straightly. Nikolakhs
Time to update! I received a package of conversion parts to make my terminators in the mail today, and I promptly set to work on making one, so tell me if you think it looks right. Other than that, these are the squads that are done so far, sculpting and modeling wise that is, and painting... idk that'll come eventually, when I'm up to the painstaking task of doing it again. The 1st squad has all zombie heads, as their theme is un-helmeted marines so that you can see their decay. The 2nd squad has all forgeworld torsos, as that's their theme. My 3rd squad when I assemble it will have all normal marine heads, and when they have horned helmets, there will only be one horn. The 4th squad will be a squad of havocs, and so will be really fat marines that don't move far, the 5th squad will be Chosen that will use possessed bits and terminator legs like the champions to set them apart, the 6th squad will be raptors in flight with mechanical legs, and the 7th squad will be another themed PM unit, but I don't know what yet. All squads will have 7 members. First Squad: http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/Zombie3Front.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/Zombie3Back.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/Zombie2Front.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/Zombie2Back.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/Zombie1Front.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/Zombie4Front.jpg Second Squad: http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/FW2Front.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/FW2Back.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/FW1Front.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/FW1Back.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/FW3Front.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/FW3Back.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/FW4Front.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/FW4Back.jpg http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/FW5Front.jpg Now here's a scale comparison between my troops so far, the furthest right is a normal scale CSM from my rotten Imperial Fist army, next to him is a normal sized PM from first squad, next to him is second squad's champion, and furthest left is a terminator. http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/SizeComparison.jpg Now, I have 3 of these "terminators" in construction, their arms will be chopped off under where the shoulderplate is so that I can give them real arms instead of meatsicles like they have now. What I'm wondering, is whether or not you guys think the metal DP is waaaay too large a scale to use as a sarge for this squad? I'm thinking it is, personally, as his height is more relegated to the height I'd want my obliterators to be in this army. http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/DPvsTermiSize.jpg Anyways, tell me what you think, C&C appreciated! -Nikolakhs Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/231616-lords-of-decay-2012-blog/#findComment-2811277 Share on other sites

MagicMan
Great models, love the guy with the chains. The second to last guy in the list of pictures looks a little odd though from the front. I'm assuming you mean the guy standing next to the "terminator," in which case yeah, he looks odd because he's still very wip, no guts, no skin, no nothing, just the connecting tissue between his torso and his legs right now. Thanks for the comments and for looking, I'll try to get updates again soon! ^_^ /b/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/231616-lords-of-decay-2012-blog/#findComment-2811907 Share on other sites
