Lords of Decay 2012 blog!

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the comments guys! On the questions:

Very nice! The only thing I would nitpick on are the combi-bolters, I think the ones from the Chaos Terminators, or actually having two bolters attached to each other would look better than the Stormbolters, they would look a bit grittier/dirtier and be more fitting with the fact that the Lords of Decay are a Death Guard warband, so mostly pre-Heresy styled equipment.

Indeed, I agree with you, but I was able to find 5 storm bolter arms for about $1, and the combi bolter arms on ebay go for quite a bit more, so I guess I had to make due with what I had. Anyways, it's not too far out of the realm of possibilities for them to have picked up loyalist weapons after slaughtering them, so I think that's what I'll go for.

I noticed you posted this bit over at Dakkadakka:
If you don't know about them, they're a genocidal warband that splintered off of the Death Guard, they were the main insurgents in the Vraks campaign, their base of operations is this huge space hulk called "The Monolith of Woe" and they are one of the most belligerent warbands in the entire galaxy, their most famous action was a direct strike on the Sol system, where 4000 Plague Marines fought against the Custodes and Grey Knights on Pluto, and although they were slaughtered to the last man, it shook the entire Solar System's concept of being unreachable.

Where did you get that part about the attack on the Sol system from?

Hey thanks, I got that info from a 40k wiki: Lords of Decay wiki now, since it's the only 40k wiki with that tidbit thrown in, I'm thinking it's false info, but, until then, I'll go with it. They are one of the main warbands in the vraks campaign though, that's for sure.

Thanks guys for the comments!

I saw it there too, but that site sadly enough isn't the most reliable one. Thing is that I'm planning a rather big fiction project about the Death Guard, or perhaps a sub-faction of it (Lord of Decay become ever more tempting). I've been trying to gather data on post-Heresy stuff about them (thread over here or on Warseer) so I at least have a basis for it. In the 40k wiki it mentions that the Terminus Est was even there. However, the Lords of Decay are a different warband and besides that, I mean...that close to Terra...Typhus? It would be a bit too radical I think. Sadly they don't provide the sources for that event. ;)

By the way, your "normal" marines, will they also be true scale?

Odd idea for shoulderpads. Try to get your hands on the very old plastic Chaos Warriors, one of the earlier "modern" multi-part kits. Remove the arm from the shoulder armor. The arm could be thrown in a bits box or whatever. Then get your hands on the Ork shoulder armor from the plastic 40k Ork boys kit. Add the Ork armor to the Chaos armor and get chunky shoulderpads. The result is something like this: View 1, View 2, View 3.

By the way the Terminator with the Reaper Autocannon, how about using the Autocannons from the Defiler kit?

Epic sir just flippin epic :) I love your oblits never would have thought of using deamon princes. I used fantasy range ogers for mine still working on the last 6. I found a clear coat at a craft store said it was for sealing acrylic paint. works good and in multiple coats really makes things wetter looking. Daler Rowney soluble varnish gloss is the brand name. Not expensive and I'm still on the first bottle 30 marines, two defilers, 3 rhinos and a 10 man lesser deamon squad and its a bout half full. Keep up the good work and hopefully Ill get some picts up of the vindi I'm finishing now.

The lightening claw on that Terminator is very Wolverine. What about giving one of the Terminators a Chainfist? Maybe something less conventional than a normal chainfist and add the chain part inside the flat surface part of the power fist, as if he would block attacks with the chain rather a flat surface.

By the way, some classical trophy racks would also be really fitting!

Hey guys!

So I've spent the last day or 2 painting some terminators. I needed to test the scheme and see how well it works on troop sized models, and I think it came out nicely. I think I overdid it on the damage though, especially on the champ, so I'll tone that down on the next batch of models which will include the 3 remaining terminators and 14 plague marines.

I know the Storm Bolters are supposed to be looted, but they still look a bit too clean, especially since they are used by one of the filthiest factions in the 40k universe!

Furthermore, I can't help but view your personal favorite as the unit's champion, he is so much more imposing than the other fellow.

I know they are mutated and all, but how would an Astartes fit in that armour? I know if a big flaw in the Terminator design in general, but still something I notice every time, especially with true scale Terminators! :P (just teasing you a bit here)

Because they stopped being exclusively 100% astartes aeons ago ^_^ I mean, look at that guys hand! :)

But yeah, I'd imagine that they've become one with their armor after all these years, and that the actual shape of all of their insides has fused into a mish mash of flesh, metal, tubing, and ceramite, so that a normal astartes wouldn't be able to fit in this armor, but over time, a Plague Marine will adapt to all of its intricacies.

I just wish I had a couple dozen nurglings and scibor snails to spread around over the place, that would be awesome!

Until now i thought that it wouldn't be possible to paint such a warband well ( i always had the rather sucky picture of them from the GW website in my mind ) but your Lords of Decay are truly awesome.

I can't stand that picture of them in the renegades gallery either! What the hell were they thinking? We have this army that had an established theme from the Siege of vraks, so lets go and change their colors completely and have them look like a crappy version of modern art? No thank you.

In my opinion, this

Was a horrible Idea, and should never have changed from

In February I bought a Hell Talon off of a seller on ebay that was getting rid of his entire collection, and boy did I get a good deal on this model. I decided that this guy wouldn't fit in with anything I had at the moment, and that I wanted something special and one of a kind. Lo and behold, so many months later, I have started painting this beastie, and boy do I have an interesting ride ahead.

This guy is supposed to embody daemonic possession. The trim is nowhere near being done yet, in the end it will looked like cracked marble. He is supposed to come off as serpentine, whilst at the same time being bound tight within the confines of the Hell Talon by a spiked cage. At the same time, some of his scales have fallen off leaving a bloody chunk under them. This effect needs a little more work on my part, but I'll figure it out as I go. Everything on this plane has been done by hand, including basecoats and every single one of those scales. Like I said, I have a long ride ahead.

So that's the update for now! I finally found a new shade of blue to be able to get my paint scheme up and running again, the paint gremlins dried my old one out, so I should have some plague marines finished sometime soon to add to the army!

Stay tuned for more!

Sweet Jesus these are immense, can't wait to see the Hell Talon. You seem to be so dedicated to Nurgle you have human body parts lying around in your back garden, nice work!

Haha yeah, we all have to get inspiration from somewhere right... ;)

Awesome army full of sickness in the nurgle way... fantanstic work, and the scaled wings on the Hell Talon is impressive. And the rhino full of bodies is soooo nurglish... well done waiting for your next update

Thank you very much! I will be hard at work this week as it will be my last complete week to work on minis, Uni starts on tuesday so I will have much less time to paint this stuff up than before. It's why I've been kicking out so much stuff recently, I want to get as much done as possible before other commitments set in and keep me bogged down. :( Damn you Chemistry!

This thread is beyond awesome, in fact it makes awesome obsolete! Your chaos terminators are without a doubt some of the best nurgle models I've ever seen so good job :D

Thanks! Pretty soon I'll have an update for you guys consisting of Plague Marines and maybe some more forgeworldy goodness.

So until then,

Hey guys! Update time!

So I've finished my dreadclaw, and I've gotten a game in with it as well. It did pretty well, delivering a squad of 10 PM right where they were needed, and looked good to boot :squigdrunk:

So here's some pics of it!

Legs retracted position, the blue dot shows the "front" of the dreadclaw.

Here's the top angle, with the 9 thrusters:

http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/Beelzebub100/Lords%20of%20Decay/Dreadclawtop.jpg

And with the legs open position, ready to poop out a squad of troops right where they're needed to assault. I need to get berserkers one day...

detail shot of retro-thrusters:

So that's that for now! Now that one's done, I'll slowly start work on the other, but for now, I must finish troops and termi's first!

C&C?

Till next time!
