Have you tried Draigo Wing with MSU's?

I was reviewing the codex...again...just love the thing....and I had a thought:

In a Draigo list I could take multiple units of Paladins as troops. Paladins can be purchased in a unit of one. One Palidin with MC Halberd and Psycannon is 85 pts. So, in theory you could take six and then use remaining points on Psyfle dreds, purifiers, etc.

Has anyone tried this and if so, how did you like it?

Apart from the fact that you can't buy Psycannons for Paladins if they're less then 5?

I myself was considering trying out a hero hammer style paladin list. a few 1 man pallie squads kept in reserve to capture stuff later in the game, and the rest of the points on killy stuff.

However, I do find that paladin units are pretty killy anyways, and I'm not sure where else I'd spend the points...

It's amusing, but I don't think you'll get much use from it.

As an alternative, you could try fielding a Paladin Deathstar as a Troops choice, then taking Coteaz as your second HQ for Henchmen Razorspam (adding Purifiers in Elite for additional Razorbacks).

If you are only taking one unit, you may as well just take a GM and use grand strategy to make them scoring, no need to dump the point on Draigo.

A 1500pt list I've been thinking about is Driago, a Librarian, two tricket-out 5-man Paladin squads, two Stormravens, and two stock Dreadnoughts. Functionally, two strike teams working in coordination with each other, one just over 750pts, the other just under. 16 models, 8 KP, everything functionally redundant.

Yes, reread the entry. That is correct and a bummer. Could still have some potential if one can get away from.."a psycannon must be in every squad possible" mentality.

How about small units of paladins as character escorts? Instead of attaching your librarian to a full unit of terminators, why not a pair of paladins? It's 4 ablative wounds for 110 pts instead of 5 for 200+. You get singled out in CC anyway. The smaller unit is more susceptible to wound allocation and instant death weapons, but can take more wounds before losing models, and costs a lot less if you want more squads on the table.

Thats true. Then again, Draigo bitchslaps everyone's heroes to pulp  and it means you can use his Grand Strategy for other stuff (like Outflanking or making your PsyDreads scoring). I don't take Draigo at 2.5k (can't find the 100pts spare), Grandmasters works fine but I can see the appeal.

I like what you're attempting, but I predict problems. You're literally like a Kill-Team facing off against enemy armies. Sure, at 1.5k people can't field Deathstars easily, and they have to streamline to only bare essentials (no extra toys), but taking down 16 models isn't a tall order. AV12 is not that hard to kill (even without melta), and once the Stormravens drop your Paladins are walking. Have a go with it, but just keep in mind how risky it is for you.

Well, I'd rather just build a proper unit of them. With an Apothecary in there, the FNP passes to the Librarian, and the free halberds on the squad should be enough to deter assaults (Librarians are more vulnerable in close-combat than at range).
