Space Wolve questions

Recommended Posts

I've been a painter, and hobbist for quite some time. And since my finding of GW/ Citadal Models, I've always mantained a large force of models ( back when they were hella cheaper I bought so many) Now that I'm getting back more into the gaming aspect of our wonderful hobby there tons of questions about rules, and wargear. That I ( for the life of me) cannot find any where on the net. So if you could please directed me to a user friendly website, and or answer these riddles for me I would greatly appreciate it..

My first army was Space Wolves so the newer codex leaves me stumped on what to do, as Im so used to the older dex.

I played someone last night with SW -vs- SW he had a squad of GH with CCW, and Bolters.. Which If I remember the BRB the rule states if you have a pistol, and CCW and or PW special you get the +1 for attack. But as his GH had bolters I thought since in the codex there isn't true grit any more so SW's do not get that rule for there bolter counting as a "pistol" in close combat. He disagreed and said that they still have it.

As I could not find it in the codex at all that said they could. I put it into the "parking lot" for future refence.

Second is the jaws of the world wolf a insta death shotting attack if the model fails there INT. If so I took out Logan on that one ;)

And this is off my questions topic. But what do Space Marine's ( of all chapters aside from SW's) use to kill Thunder Wolves!

With Wolf Guard in TDA starting with a Power Weapon, and Storm Bolter do they get an extra attack? Secondly if you switch that to a bolter combi does that increace your attacks since he has relentless?

As you can see I'm very unclear on the two handed rules lately.

When using the Wolf Guard unit leader does that take up elite slots? ie like Sang Priest have a 0-3 limit that take up one elite slot..

I think that is all for now If there's any more question I'll post on later. Thanks.

SW (edit: Grey Hunters) come standard with the bolter, pistol and CCW and can choose which to use at any given time regardless how the fig is modeled. they also come with frag and krak grenades too fyi.

Jaws uses a "remove from play" mechanic, not Instant Death. Eternal Warrior only prevents Instant Death.

Jaws trumps EW.

best way to kill thunder cav is torrent of fire. mass bolter fire (or equivelent) and just try to force as many cheap saves. or rock a vindicator tank.

Wolf Guard in TDA do not get +1A as they do not have a pistol or second CCW

nor does the combi-bolter count as a pistol/CCW

Relentless simply allows one to fire any weapon as if standing still and still allowed to assault even if firing Heavy/Rapid Fire weps. and has no bearing on number of attacks in assault

yes Pack Leaders still use a Elite slot (also note they are 3-10 meaning you 3 minimum or none at all)

welcome back hope that helps

I just woke up, so I can only wrap my head around one of these.

Grey Hunters, per the new codex, are listed as the only unit to carrying a ccw, bolt pistol, AND bolter. If it's not indicated on the model, it's assumed they have it somewhere. So, GHs get a +1 to their attacks in general (why it's not simply included in the stat-line is beyond me).

Secondly, remember you get +1 attacks for charging (making it 3 attacks), but also ALL Space Wolves have the Counter-Attack special rule, giving them +1 attacks when taking an initial charge from an enemy, so no matter who charges in a given turn, SWs will have +1 attacks for that turn (making it 3 for GHs) and, in the case of Grey Hunters, have 2 attacks thereafter (ccw + bolt pistol).

So the grey hunters only have 1 base attack. due to the BRB a two handed weapon ( boltgun) does not confer a second attack on assault. on the other hand if a grey hunter is equipped with a pistol/ ccw combo then that would apply. Now unless I'm missing something in those rule stats and nothing that in the SW codex elsewhere states that a GH get and extra +1 for bolter/ ccw mix in the assault phase. Now before some one goes to state he does I'm not refering to the bonus attack point for charging that is an obvious +1.
...on the other hand if a grey hunter is equipped with a pistol/ ccw combo then that would apply....

Grey Hunters do have a Bolt Pistol and CCW. They have all three, automatically: Bolter, Pistol, and CCW. The SW Codex does indeed say this.

Just because it isn't represented on the model, doesn't mean they don't have it. It's like saying my Wolf Lord has a Wolf Tooth Necklace and then looking at the model and seeing no necklace. It's still there, regardless of representation.

So a Grey Hunter can use his bolter at range, and when he gets into melee, swaps out his bolter for his bolt pistol and ccw. His bolter is now assumed to be stashed away somewhere on his person.

It's sad, but I stated this (in not so many words) in the third post... If you're gunna ask a question, read the responses.

Look at the new codex under the entries that describe the point costs and equipment, that is where you will find that it gives them all the goodies!

Another important thing to remember is that your units who get charged must pass a leadership test to get the charging bonus when counter attacked, it is no longer goes off automatically.

Your Wolf Guard pack leaders are recruited from one pack. Basically you buy a pack of Wolf Guard and then assign various WG to different packs that are going to need a boost.

Don't forget to shoot your pistols before charging in. Wolves essentially get 4 attacks ! 1 shooting, which always hits on a 3, and then the melee attacks.

Normal marines can do this, they come with bolter an pistol.

But they dont have a CCW, so they get 1 less attack each in close combat, which is 10 attacks less for a 10 man squad, which can be quite significant.
