Horus and the shields

Ok, so I was thinking about the whole Horus and Big E fight at the end of the Siege of Terra and the ideas going about that some people think it was Horus who in his rush to sieze the throne, ordered the shields be lowered or Little Horus lowering them due to his guilt.

Now, I had an idea of where it's Abaddon who lowers them because he wants to be the one to rule the galaxy and/or has been goaded by a deamon to realise what Horus will not, the destruction of the Imperium and the age of chaos.

Comments and ideas?

The best thing for chaos was for Horus to lose, as suggested by the Cabal, so it stands to reason that the whole thing was planned from the start and I think it will be someone so far unexpected who lowers them and that might be Abaddon.

But it might not.

according to the older fluff.. Horus himself turned them off. In the older fluff the Wolfs and Dark Angels were almost to earth to relieve the defenders. Horus was rushed for time and a a two pronged fight wasn't in his best interest. With the ferocity of the Wolves and the cunning strategic mind of The Lion at his back he chose to pull the Emperor into a final battle before they arrived.

With all the new fluff out I haven't seen where they changed this part. I'd like to think that it was still the case and that Horus feared the two legions flanking his forces. The raw bezerker rage of the wolves defending their father, and the Lion, who was the only one to come close to the number of victories that Horus had (Which is very impressive if you think about how much more time Horus had to get those victories) tipping the balance against Horus.

I'd prefer it if the old fluff remained, rather than was retconned. It simply makes sense, what with Horus pushed into the decision and the Emperor taking the opening that was presented simply to expedite any kind of victory. More details and a fleshed out narrative would be nice, though.
