BrotherSargeantDaro
Brothers, Thank you for taking the time to read this topic! I am a brand new Grey Knight enthusiast, Black Templars being my first true love. :) I just wanted to know what schemes you guys have come up with over the years that are NOT gunmetal. I really like Nonmetallic Metallic greys, but I am not that good with a brush yet. Araxius has a really nice white scheme, (His Chapter should be called the "Ghost Legion") but I can't stand pristine white. I was thinking abut a dark grey, maybe Codex Grey with Fortress Grey highlights... Also, someone over in the Hall of Honors Thread posted his Grey Knights with Black armour and flaming edges (similar to Damned but minus the death symbols) which I liked, but I already have Black Templars. Opinions? And secondly, what should I get? I went to my local store and all they had for Grey Knights was The Termies, a Dread Knight (which I still feel icky about) and Stern and Draigo. I went for the termies, but I really wanted the PA Grey Knights. What do I get next? I was thinking actually getting mine own Codex, and then PA (2 boxes) Crowe, and Landraider. Yay or nay? Or a Stormraven? Again, thank you for taking the time to read and reply!! Strength And Honour! waaanial00
To be honest I say go for it in terms of alternative colour scheme. If you are thinking ghostly then that neednt be pure white, how about something a little in the green or blue spectrum http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm183/waaanial00/Vampire%20Counts/Senschel_front.jpg Take a look at the sword/axe, is this something you would like to go for? It could be toned down with a very very watery white wash. Go for some real Ghost Knights. Alternatively just pick your favourite colour and go for it. Apparently the best units are Purifiers which makes the absolute crazy choice of Crowe a must, which is a shame because hes really a downer on your army as a whole. The thing which strikes me about GK is that they are very much combined arms, they need to overlap in order to succeed. I wouldnt go too fancy with them either, they are damned expensive anyway and liable to fall with a bad luck dice round. I wouldnt want to compound matters much by reducing your model count much further. Finally, come on GK dudes. We have a person in dire need of support here. Dont let him waste money on bad choices because of a lack of support, not on the B&C. KhorneHunter57x
One of the guys in my local gaming group has a beautiful steel blue Grey Knights army. Unfortunately, I am not one for tactical advice on the GKs, but if it were me going the Purifier route, I would prefer the Stormraven over a Land Raider (though it might just be because I like aircraft). BrotherSargeantDaro
Hmmm, thanks for the advice guys! It's day 2 and I still havn't assembled them because of the ridiculous 130 something pieces in the box... so I really want a good color scheme.... I like the Spectral Colour scheme Waaniaal.... Im just trying to think of it on the actual models... I was originally thinking of a dark grey (maybe codex grey) with fortress grey highlights ..... not original I know. number6
I'm no artist -- and I also quite fancy the standard grey/silver color scheme -- so I'm not much help there. But I have seen people paint their GKs a beautiful crimson, various shades of grey, a really dark charcoal (nearly black), and, believe it or not, bright orange! I suggest you just pick colors you like and go to town. Nobody is going to harangue you for "non-standard" colors. (At least, nobody should harangue you!) As for what to get: depends on what you want to do! Or the models you like best. :) There are no set builds with the new codex. The difficulty will be coming up with a list that coheres well. It's very easy to just throw together units and end up with something of a mess. But I would start with the units that most appeal to you and attempt to build a list around them that supports them well. BrotherSargeantDaro
Well So far I have bought a single box of termies... and am simply baffeled by the weapon options... So I plan on getting another box of termies, and 4 of PA GK.... then crowe and make conversion for anything else I would like.... Thanks for the advice though! Inquisitor Fox
I'd have to say that bleached bone also makes a nice color.. and seems to be relatively easy to use washes with (I stink with washes, I go for drybrushing because I can do that). As far as collecting, the consensus seems to be that nemesis force weapons are best on strike squads or shooting units, halberds on combat units, falchions are overpriced. Psycannons rock, psilencers are kinda gimped, incinerators are situational. However, my advice echoes number6's: Go with what you like. Pick a few units that you like the feel of, the look of, the fluff... and build your army around them with supporting units. I'm going to use multiple Inquisitors as my HQ most likely unless I'm playing Apocalypse because I like them. It won't work for most people, and many people would insist that I'm setting myself up for a loss, but it's fun for me and that's the point. BrotherSargeantDaro
Amen brother!!! Thanks for all the advice... Im just afraid bone will come across as Dark Angels..... I appreciate the break down on gear though! most useful! (and a good think because, I just made my Termies/paladins carry halberds.... Michael W
Couldn't help you with what to buy (given as I haven't bought a Knight since somewhere around 2004) but I do have 40 painted ones sitting on a shelf. If you're thinking dark gray, consider Adeptus with Codex as a highlight (seen in the pic below). That's the way the bulk of my Knights are done and I'm certainly happy with them (though I should have stripped the first 5 when I started repainting them). I'm definitely a fan of the Knights in black, too, though you're right, that drifts toward Templars. Regardless, don't hesitate to do a couple test minis, find a scheme you enjoy painting, and then go with it. http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t128/TexAK83/Grey%20Knights/Gwalcmai01.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/231877-alternate-color-schemes-and-collecting-advice/#findComment-2795181 Share on other sites
