Aztec based chapter

I've been thinking lately I want to start a chapter based loosly on Aztec culture with a strong emphasis on jaguar and eagle warriors, just wondering if anyone else has done this and if anyone else wants to help on this. Im thinking the Space Marine codex would provide a good base for the foundation.

The Aztec did have an emphasis on blood and hearts for sacrificial reasons. And there origins are associated with 7 different city-state like towns that allied/marged to form the Aztec Empire while serpaints also did take part in there cultural mythology. So all those ideas for a foundation are good ones. I was just thinking more along the terms of there fighting style seems more on par with Space Wolves then any other chapter. Most due to there barbaric style of fighting. I plan on taking A,Tec culture and changing the spelling of some words so there easyer to pronounce and also so there background doesn't read exactly like a history text book.

Im thinking of calling there home world Aztland (or maybe just Azland), similar to how the land the 7 Aztec city settlers came from was called Aztlan, and putting emphasis on the 7 Warring cities being united by the chapter primarch. Now I need a way to put emphasis on eagle warriors and jagaur warriors as well as introduce other elements of Aztec culture to the chapter.

I actually have created an Chapter loosely based upon the Aztecs/Mayans on this forum. I decided to use the White Scars as their geneseed and made them an older Chapter as well (4th Founding). If you care to read it, here is my Index Astartes: Five Suns I went away from Eagle and Jaguar warriors as neither eagles nor jaguars exist upon their homeworld.
Im digging the rainbow warriors fluff, but im still set on a fluff more based on just Aztec culture and modeling veterans as Jaguar warriors (orange and black for regular vets, black for termies and honor/company guard will be white themed) and jump Marines as eagle warriors. Mostly because i would love to make up a good army and something unique in terms of models too.

If it was me, I'd make the Sternguard the Jaguars Warriors and the Vanguard the Eagle Warriors. It would be slightly simpler that way and make sense.

Also, be sure to not get too carried away with the theme. That's very easy to do when you're basing a chapter on a real world culture.

I'd second this. Generally, chapters are better done by taking the key character of a culture and putting it into a Space Marine context rather than making "Samurais in Space". Of course, it's your chapter and the 40k universe is a whacky one, so feel free to ignore this :o
