sponsra
From the various descriptions of Primarchs in the HH-books it seems that they are to Astartes as Astartes to normal humans. I imagined, for exampe, that Loken, Abbadon and the others would reach Horus to the chest... Maybe the difference is bigger, and of course it varies från primarch to primarch, but in Galaxy in flames their is a description of Fulgrim where he stands amongst his warriors and the Dread Nought Ancient Rylanor is among them and they are said to be "Dwarfed" by the size of Fulgrim. So, if he is that much bigger than a dread, that would make him like, three times the height of a Space marine. Sounds like a bit too big to me.... Billuriye
Don't expect consistency when it comes to primarch sizes. Especially Magnus. In one scene he's at the same size as Ahriman in another he's a miniature titan. But i'd say they are around 11 to 12 feet. malika666
Note that Alpharius/Omegon use Space Marines as personal doubles. This might sound odd, especially since in the Alpha Legion IA Alpharius was described as a rather tall Primarch. Phebrickid
I tend to think of them as you said 'they are to Astartes as Astartes to normal humans' and that any that are mentioned as considerably larger (Magnus) would prehaps be this difference again, or maybe a little less... Codicier Lucion
I tend to think of them as you said 'they are to Astartes as Astartes to normal humans' I thought that term was usually used to describe Custodes? Morollan
I tend to think of them as you said 'they are to Astartes as Astartes to normal humans' I thought that term was usually used to describe Custodes? No, I've been rereading alot of the HH books lately and it's definitely used in connection with several Primarchs. Marines are supposed to be roughly 7 feet tall and for arguments sake, let's say that is 20% taller than human average. Increasing that by a further 20% would put a primarch at about 8'5", which sounds about right to me, although it does still leave Alpharius and his twin in search of a job lot of platform-heeled power armour for their body doubles. Necris
Alpharius is described as being a head shorter than any of his brothers The named body double they both use in Legion is a large "primarch" sized marine Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/231972-primach-sizes/#findComment-2791058 Share on other sites
sponsra
Well, anyway, maybe they´re 8 feet maybe 15 feet, probably different from Primarch to Primarch, but still, its silly to describe Fulgrim as "dwarfing" a dreadnought. Galaxy in flames is quick paced and exciting -and is one of the first three books that everyboda likes, but I have the feeling that it´s not as well written in the dialog and building of characters as the first two. Some of the things tha characters say and think seem a bit, well, shallow.... Morningstar317
I think alot of of this is open for interputation. Space Marines have been quoted in the books at 3 metres (circa 10 feet) to the 7 feet mentioned earlier in this thread. As for Alpharius's double, can I point out it was his twin, who was described as bigger than the other marines with him. Necris
It was either Ranko or Herzog there is a bit in the book where Alpharius, Omegon Peck and one other are stood together the other marine is the same height as Omegon and Alpharius (or near enough that only a fellow Alpha Legionary could tell them apart) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/231972-primach-sizes/#findComment-2791455 Share on other sites
Iron Father Ferrum
Alpharius and Omegon weren't short Primarchs; their Marines are just taller than other Marines. The IA on the Legion actually describes them as being exceptionally tall and strong, even for Astartes. Alpharius commonly had other, normal, Marines stand in for him. Jim Shady
With reading the HH series and the Codexes, it would appear to me that you have a small percentage of Marines that are alot taller/bulkier than say, the average Marine. Could be that the specific geneseed they get makes them that way, including the implantation of the organs and it could be that if they were left to grow to be a normal human, they'd be fairly taller etc. So I think by taking advantage of this and Alpharius being a head shorter than his brothers, it could work. Just my perception of it. As for the Primarchs, I'd say they all were the same height. Magnus could change his size due to his knowledge of the warp to give him power to change his size.
