Ordo Xenos Army

Recommended Posts

As has been stated before, the best current model for an OX army is Codex Space Marines with Sternguard is Deathwatch Kill Teams, Scouts as IST, vehicles to suit your needs, a Captain or Librarian for HQ, and any special character to stand in is an OX Inquisitor.

Solomon Lok is a good HQ choice if your going Ordo Xenos, then just make yourself some Red Scorpions.

Honestly the best Ordo Xenos army you will need the Anphelion Project IA4.

I'm about to start a Deathwatch army based on the Sternguard/scouts idea. However since I'm a fan of IA (I'm a recent collector and I have only vol. 9 and 10, Badab war volumes) I find your statement of extreme interest.

Can you please share more details? Does IA4 have ordo xenos dedicated units? I know it tell about a Tyranid invasion and it covers several Red Scorpions units( I heard Culln is more powerful in IA9, though).

I'm about to buy my mext IA book and I'd like to know if IA4 may be a nice addition to my Deathwatch project.

Are its rules still "competive" under the 5th edition rulebook?

Thank you.

The list in IA4 is not really a Ordo Xenos one. If I remember correctly it's for a regiment seconded (permanently?) to the Ordo Xenos, but essentially it's just a variant Elysian drop troops list with no actual Inquisitorial units. Solomon Lok himself is more or less a standard Inquisitor with small retinue as per the now outdated rules from the DH and WH codices.

So I'd assume the rules are neither conforming with the current IG and Inq. rules nor do they offer anything exotic.

The Red scorpions don't have any formal ties with the Inq./Ordo Xenos as far as I know. They just assisted Lok in that one campaign.

Personally I'd go with either the Space Marines, Space Wolves or Grey Knights:

- Space Marines have the Sternguard, but the Scout profile does not really fit IST.

- Space Wolves have Wolf Guard, Long Fangs and Wolf Scouts, who can count as DW with varying equipment. There're not many options for counts-as Inquisitorial units though.

- Grey Knights have actual Inquisitors and henchmen and lots of options fitting the DW's use of specialized and sometimes obscure equipment; the psychic special rules would have to be explained though (for example by the squads being led by Librarians) or simply not used at all.

Scouts are a good fit for IST because their statline is not as good as Marine but much better than a Guardsmen, which could be veteran Inquisitorial Shock Troops. Also, their selection of equipment and vehicles are a close match, as well.

If you go with an actual OX Inquisitor and Henchmen, you lose the ability to take standard Marines, let alone actual DW Marines. GK are just a different enough version of Marine to be not so good of a fit. You can actually outfit an acolyte in PA with a Bolter, but then you get overpriced Sisters, and not DW.

Wolves are an interesting thought, but you simply give up the "human" element of an OX army.

Oh yeah, a GREAT list for Deathwatch. All that flak armor in the D99 would make great Deathwatch Marines. :D

A regular Space Marines army with Pedro and a bunch of Sternguard is the best way to go if you want Deathwatch.

Since I want my DW army a Space Marine ones using IG is not a viable option. I know there are many players saying IG is very competitive but I still prefer the heroic SM. :D

Fluff wise the Red Scorpions are extreme xenophobes.

They work closely with the ordo xenos and would be a cool army to collect.

Read the wiki to get a feel of them.

That's true but Red Scorpions have issues with Ordo Xenos after the Aphelion Incident. If I remember correctly several members of OX blame Commander Culln for the death of Inquisitor Lok.

I really like the Red Scorpions minis and maybe I'll build an army based on them in future. I was thinking to add some Red Scorpions pouldrons to DW sterngaurds but then I remembered their issues with OX.

Didn't we have a thread on this topic a matter of days ago?

Honestly, the issues your speaking of depend greatly on the faction of OX you want to be represented as being in charge of your DW force. I can readily imagine several of them wouldn't have any issue with how Anphelion went down.

That's reasonable. The problem may arise if Culln wouldn't agree to move some of his warriors under DW. By the way since 40k is a game I believe our immagination shouldn't be limited. We are free to create whatever background we like for our army.
