Obsidians Word Bearers

Recommended Posts

Hello Everybody,

I've decided to strip and repaint my old Word Bearers army as a mild break to my Fists, rest assured I will be working on both armies in tandem so hopefully neither army will be relegated to the depths.

This time I've decided to not go with NMM as it takes too long, and I aim to get at least this army ready before I move to Frome in August.

Here is what I've got done in the last 24 hours.

I've magnetised the dreads right arm to enable weapon swaps as well.

and also I've got the red done on these termis and started the boltgun metal work

(i haven't washed the metal yet so its still quite bright)

Thanks for looking, C&C welcome

Those look absolutely gorgeous! I love the red. The only thing I would criticise on (which might be a moot point seeing as this is a WIP thread) is the bone and the parchment on the dread. Could just be me but they look a little pink. If they're not done yet though just count my post as "Good work!"

Thanks very much!

the bone and parchment aren't done yet, they're only on stage 3 of a five stage process. (dwarf flesh, scorched brown wash, pick up highlights with dwarf flesh again, bleached bone, white)

I thought I'd put up my mornings progress before I do some other stuff for the day (jobhunting, LA Noire etc)

Hope you enjoy.

So far this morning, I have done the metal work and made a start on the bases.

(boltgun metal, wash twice with badab mixed 70/40 with the same blue I use for my fists, pick out details with boltgun metal then finally mithril silver)

Thanks for the comments guys!

..imo..just the loin cloth seems too small..

I kind of agree with the dreads loin cloth, however, In my mind the dreadnought is a member of the warband who tried to take over from the current leader, and as punishment the lord mortally wounded him then incarcerated him in a dread, and the small loin cloth is just a bit of extra punishment (small shoes etc...)

This is making me wanna go home and work on my Cult of the Annointed instead of getting sleep like I should.....just wish I had one of those graveyard jobs where I could paint while working.

The best job I had was working at a bands rehearsal rooms, 6 hour shifts where you could do everything needed in 2 hours then have the rest of the shift to get other things done, shame I was off 40k at the time, but I did manage to get the groundwork on a guitar made while I was there!

Triple Post over 3 days!!! (is someone trying to tell me something :tu: )

Well my girlfriend buggered off to Bristol today with the SLR and Lightbox for an exhibition, leaving me with a whole day of painting and my awful digital camera that even at 10 megapixels, the quality of the images it takes would lead me to believe it's powered by clockwork.... ;)

So I got on with my newly stripped Lord...

Note to self, definitely use rubber gloves while stripping models!

Meet Cal Thoranis

The picture quality really doesnt show a lot, but the face looks way better in person, but please notice my crimson fists sneaking behing the paint pot hoping to assassinate him... hopefully my better half will return soon with the lightbox so I can edit this post with a better picture.

Have a good weekend everyone

I got the Lightbox back!!! YAY.

Also, this means that I can show you all the latest update, the end is in sight for my paintjob on my lord, only gemstones, wires, brown highlights and a tyranid skull needed to finish him off!

Maybe a redo of the eyes as well, he looks more gormless than evil when looking at the photos.

3rd time lucky I hope!

Hello again.

I'd ditch the horns and add some facial tattoos like prayers from Lorgar. His eyes would look nice in red i bet

I like the idea of facial tattoos actually, i might do a little tester and see if its feasable, I'm half tempted to lose the horns, I'll give it a week or so and have a think. :P

I've re done the eyes now, and also changed the base to another I had lying around, still not finished, but it's one step closer. At least it now looks like he hates everyone :)

I also have been upto a few more Word Bearer shennanigans this weekend, basically, the following model was originally a commission someone sent me, but they cancelled and I left him sitting on a biscuit tin for 3 months, what you are seeing is a model after 2 washes, so I still need to go back over the red and metal to brighten him up a little.

gallery_60213_6224_260760.png

gallery_60213_6224_209622.png

and I have made a start on the first marine squad.

gallery_60213_6224_219802.png

and close ups.

gallery_60213_6224_241936.png

gallery_60213_6224_302083.png

(the black shoulder pad is just to add a little bit of variation into the squad)

gallery_60213_6224_208314.png

gallery_60213_6224_366214.png

(this is the first time I've had a go at the blue grey knight style blade, I missed the article so even if it's not correct, I like the effect I got out of it, though it did take me about 40 mins to do!)

C&C Appreciated

Until next time!

*cough, cough.... threadomancy.... cough.

Hello you lovely people, I'm back (like a vertebrae) for a short while at least.

I'm not a great one for writing lots of fluff and all that,so I won't bore you... BUT!... I have been busy(ish)

so without further ado, pics!

I got bored of the sorcerer idea (for now) and thought I'd be best served making him into something slightly more intimidating.

gallery_60213_6224_356423.png

gallery_60213_6224_164020.png

a slight improvement i think.

Next, I've been working on a possessed predator, I'm not great at sculpting, but I think I managed at least to get the idea across.

gallery_60213_6224_188559.png

gallery_60213_6224_181839.png

I also went ahead to wayland, and bought a squad of marines, so here is the first 5, done over the space of a weekend.

You'll notice a difference in my painting style, lets just put that down to the fact I've had a few months and I want to eventually move away from my "comic book style" of painting into something a bit more realistic, it helps to apply NMM style painting into the more natural metal paints you get from GW and thier ilk.

Hmm, might be pushing it for photos, but here goes...

Plague marines!!!!

gallery_60213_6224_329588.png

I'm not one for buying too much when I have bits and bobs at my disposal, so as I have about 5 normal marines left over from my fists army, I had a go.

This is my first attempt at using milliput, and all I can really say is that its interesting stuff to work with, not great for detail, but stupidly cheap, use GS for detail and use milliput to bulk stuff out, as I havent painted these yet, I may wait and get some GS (i ran out) to put some more detail in.

ok then, I'll be around for a bit to answer questions and queries if you have them, C&C appreciated.

Muchos love

DLO

Hello again,

heres some better images ( i made myself another lightbox!) and a couple of finished units/models

Here we go...

I took a bit of advice considering the Terminator lord, and this is what I came up with!

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m595/jrdragonetti/The%20Apostasy/term_champ_28nov.png

I also almost finished the plague marines, I never was a fan of drybrushing, but, a few coats of dwarf flesh, a black wash then a few of bleached bone really work for these guys.

hmm, what else....

Bezerkers!

Thats it for now.
