Plan for a Pre Heresy army, thoughts?

Hi guys, I’ve just finished the ‘Galaxy in flames’ HH book after the enjoying first two and between them I’ve really got the urge to do some pre heresy marines:- My idea is to build up a force of the four legions present on Isstvan III from the loyal side, so I’m looking at a combination Emperor’s Children, Death Guard, World Eaters and Luna Wolves (Sons of Horus).

I’m intending on doing this force in the time frame after Saul Tarvitz landed and before Lucius handed the palace to Eidolon. Therefore the leaders I’m wanting to make eventually will be Saul, Lucius, Loken, Torgaddon, Ehrlen (I think that’s the WE leader’s name), Garro (I know he’s not on the surface but he did fight on the moon and I need a DG leader), plus any other notable DG and WE captain if anyone knows one of them who was loyalist?

The main focus of the army will be on the Emperor's Children and Luna Wolves, as I like the purple and gold of the Emperor's Children and the background of the Luna Wolves, and also because from a fluff point of view these two legions seemed to have the most warriors left immediately after the firestorm.

 

I want to basically ask 2 questions...

1.)I’m wanting to do the Luna Wolves as Luna Wolves white colour scheme, even though they would have been in the green of Sons of Horus when they went down to the surface – does everyone think it would be reasonable to imagine the loyalists denouncing the green colour scheme along with the name, I mean I don’t know where they’d be able to recolour their armour and redo their emblem but do people think this would be a reasonable and minor violation of fluff? (I know I wouldn’t want to die wearing the colours of a traitor)

2.)Plus I like the dirty white and green trim colour scheme for the Death Guard but the book always mentions the DG as being pure unornamented grey metal – did they actually still wear the colours after Mortarion took over? Because I don’t want them to look like Iron Warriors, so same question, do you think it would be reasonable to do the DG in the dirty white and green trim scheme?

 

Please give me your thoughts on this idea, as I know there are many people on these boards that are much more learned in the times of the Horus Heresy - although I'm making an effort as I've just got HH collected visions through the post yesterday and I've read the first quater so far... :D

Sounds like a sweet idea and i encourage you to go for it.

 

For the luna wolves i dont personally see it as realistic with the fluff as i doubt they had time to change the colour of there armor but in the end its your army and you can paint

whatever you like best (i also prefer the original luna wolves colours over the sons of horus.) :tu:

 

as for the DG from what ive seen there is generally either white or off-white armor with emerald trim. Once again for fluff purposes Garro probably wouldnt be your best choice for your DG commander so i sugest that instead you use Ullis Temeter as he is the only DG captain that i have heard was on Istvann.

Yeah, I know it is unlikely that they could repaint their armour, but they're marines - I'm sure they could make some paint from concrete dust :D

 

I know Garro wasn't on the planet I just want to make him (also after he'd been crushed by sound he got bionics if I remember rightly and I like them Forge World bionics), do you know if there is any description of any defining characteristics/apperance of Ullis Temeter.

i cant find any detailed description of Ullis Temeter anywhere, the closest i can really come up with is from flight of the eisentein.

 

he has a shaven scalp with a shoulder length pony-tail.
