Shoulderpads

Hey everyone.

I am currently trying to solve a problem with my Fleshtearer shoulderpads.

I am using the transfer from Forgeworld, but I am having trouble getting the decal flat.

When I tried using the GW Blood Angel decals everything went fine, but the Fleshtearer decal is slightly bigger, and therefor ALOT harder to get flat.

I use some kind of decal softener from Flames of War.

Anyone have any tips for me? I would hate to freehand the decals or getting the metal ones from GW since they are smaller than plastic shoulderpads.

PS. Posting from Iphone that autocorrects to random swedish words, so anoying!!

Have you tried cutting round the buzzsaw part of the decal so theres no overhang? I usually do that with a combination of making small cuts in the decal itself so it curves better. After just touch up the areas you cut with a dab of paint. Microl sol and micro set are really good for decals id invest in some of that. It wont break the bank and you get really good results.

Hope this helps you out

Pick up some microsol. It's a liquid solution that softens the decal and allow it to conform around curved surfaces. Just be careful. The decal will be easy to tear once you apply the solution. There is another product called microset that will disolve the edges of the decal but I wouldn't recommend this.

Doh, too slow.

Your problem is because a marine's shoulder pad curves in two directions, which the transfer does not want to do. As already suggested, get some microsol and microset, they will soften it enough to lay flat. Also, gloss varnish the area before putting the decal on, they work much better on a glossy surface. You can use gloss, and the later still, matt varnish afterwards to protect and normalise the area. Done right it should look like it was painted.

Don't try cutting around each tooth of the buzzsaw, you'll just end up with some folded under the transfer.
