Alaitoc
Hello there! I recently traded all my painted space wolves for about 2000+ pts vanilla marines, unassembled and unpainted! The retail value of that stuff vs my spacewolves was about double the amount. So, I thought it was a good trade. At first I was thinking about the minotaurs chapter, because I wanted them to be done quickly up to tabletop standard. The minotaurs, being brazen all over, didn't cut it, so I started too look after other chapters who were fast to paint. I never really thought about it before, but with years of experience in miniature painting, I got a mental picture of how to speedpaint blood ravens to a nice enough standard for the tabletop! So, I thought I would start a log about my progress of my blood ravens army. It's based on the 3rd company (Gabriel Angelos) and Dawn of war I, and some inspiration from DoW II. I have all the bitz I now need for Gabriel, and will convert him later on. I just finished my 2 tactical squads with rhinos. The 2 tactical squads took me about 6 hours each, and the rhinos took no more than 45 minutes from start to finish! Here are some pictures: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y129/Gorthor/6740d896.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y129/Gorthor/f833c00e.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y129/Gorthor/60755b66.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y129/Gorthor/5ca45637.jpg I hope you like them! I'm also almost finished with my terminator squad, and will post pictures later today or tomorrow! Eberious
Looks great, although a little to much snow on the ol tracks there. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232462-knowledge-is-power-guard-it-well/#findComment-2796192 Share on other sites
Daemon Smith
Very nice. Looking forward to the rest! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232462-knowledge-is-power-guard-it-well/#findComment-2796203 Share on other sites
DarkMark
Great result for time: effort put in! The chipping is a little OTT, but is ok. I'd be lucky to get a model done in the time you'll smashed this lot together. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232462-knowledge-is-power-guard-it-well/#findComment-2796262 Share on other sites
Papakeno
Nice work. Are those marines gloss varnished? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232462-knowledge-is-power-guard-it-well/#findComment-2796267 Share on other sites
Vulkan454
Loving that snow on the rhino's, it's very realistic ;) I'll be watching for your version of Gabriel, Vulkan Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232462-knowledge-is-power-guard-it-well/#findComment-2796387 Share on other sites
subtlebrush
These are looking great! Love the snow. Blood Ravens are one of my favorite Chapters. I'll definitely be watching for more! Alaitoc
Thank you for all the nice comments! Really triggers me to work more on my models! Terminators ready! http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y129/Gorthor/a98d5001.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y129/Gorthor/45171390.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y129/Gorthor/00e63a29.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y129/Gorthor/a7363dc4.jpg I'm sitting here thinking about my Gabriel Angelos conversion. I decided to make hin as chapter master instead of commander, so he'll be the post retribution version. I already collected a two handed daemonhammer, and I'll use stuff from the commander-box for the rest of the upper body. In the ending for blood ravens, it looks like he's got his bionic legs covered with robes, so I was thinking about using some dark angels robed legs for him. Total bionic legs is not really an option, since I think it would look tacky... About the head...his head is half bionic, and I was thinking about using the half bionic head in the SM box for him, and greenstuffing some hair for the "fleshy" parts of his head. The bionics are unfortunatley, on the right side of the face in the ending in retribution, but on the model it's the left side...anyone know of a better idea to symbolize the bionics on gabriel? Or will it work even though the bionics are on the "wrong side" of his face? Any ideas welcomed! Alaitoc
I finished my Librarian! I hated his bare head (Looked too babyfaced), plus, I don't like the fact that they remove their helmets (it's just dumb), so...I put on a helmet on him! It's not a finecast model, it's good old metal, so it took some effort to get it right, but I think at least now I got a Librarian who looks pretty kicka**! The painting on this dude was pretty slow. He's got a LOT of small details, and I think it took me about 6 hours from start to finish! Here he is (Pictures are not very good however): http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y129/Gorthor/ba8106f4.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y129/Gorthor/555b3305.jpg Hope you like him! shabbadoo
Look pretty dang good with a helmet. I may have to do that too. I know what you mean about the baby face. Nice facial details to be sure, but all of the newer Librarians suffer from that "giant baby head" thing. the head are all slightly too big, and the faces are all chubby-ish. You've put together a nice looking force. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232462-knowledge-is-power-guard-it-well/#findComment-2799945 Share on other sites
Mr Yellow
I HATE you, I just don't get how people can paint to a good standard in lightning fast time. I can paint fairly well but it takes MUCH longer. Sometimes I fall asleep I can spend so much time painting, it's like watching paint dry....hang on....it IS watching paint dry. Could you please do a semi-detailed explanation of how you do these guys. Cheers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232462-knowledge-is-power-guard-it-well/#findComment-2799950 Share on other sites
Alaitoc
Could you please do a semi-detailed explanation of how you do these guys.Cheers The basic guys are SO easy to do: 1. Spray the marine army painter Dragon Red. Spray the bolter chaos black. Spray the shoulderpads skull white. 2. Paint black between armourplates (you know, where most paint black, in the knee- joint, in the elbow joint etc.) and the trims on the shoulderpads. 3. Paint bettledamage with mitril silver - paint all metal parts silver. 4. Paint gold on the chest eagle and other details 5. paint purity seals bleached bone 6. Wash the entire model with wash/dip of choice (I use army painter dark shade mostly for the big can at reasonable price compared to GW washes. A mix of devlan mud/badab black/water would have the same effect, but it would be more expensive). 7. apply transfers 8. paint any details you forgot/missed 9. Purity seal spray. 10...DONE! MagicMan
Looking great, the conversion on the Librarian is very cool. Where did you get your transfers from? The chapter symbol is easily the biggest stumbling block ive found with Blood Ravens... For Angelos, from what i can remember he loses one of his arms and everything from the waist down, but Bionics don't have to be on show, they can be encased in armour. I think the half metal tactical face would work well with some hair, it doesn't really matter what side the bionics are on. :( http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110408175010/warhammer40k/images/c/c8/Gabriel_Angelos.png Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232462-knowledge-is-power-guard-it-well/#findComment-2800013 Share on other sites
Alaitoc
Thank you! The waist down I'll use robed legs from the dark angels sprue! The tactical marine is something I thought about, but decided that side and stuff DID matter after all! So.....I greenstuffed it! The picture is not that great, and the details doesn't shot really well, but I sculpted bionics on a face I found that looks a bit like Gabriel without bionics...I just had to add them! very WIP, but I'm getting there! http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y129/Gorthor/cf2fafa3.jpg Edit: Oh! And the transfers are from forgeworld! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232462-knowledge-is-power-guard-it-well/#findComment-2800036 Share on other sites
One-eye
Great looking Blood Ravens. I really like your Librarian and the subtle weathering on all minis. The snow on the tank tracks are a bit too much for me also, but it's a detail. subtlebrush
Looking awesome as ever! The Gabriel conversion seems to be going well. Rafen_2
I started this game with Dawn of War so Blood Ravens flow through my veins and you sir have done a good job representing them. Not sure if anyone pointed this out but in Dark Crusade the Space Marines just so happen to be in the snowy territory in the start of the campaign. Alaitoc
Thank you so much! I'm glad you like it! No, I don't really think so. The other characters are mostly from the 4th company, and I'm making the 3rd mixed with 1st company. If I ever decide to have a standardbearer in the commandsquad I may do Tarkus though.... I've read somewhere that he's the standardbearer of the honourguard or something...
