henrywalker
so here is the hammer for my dreadknight. I had originally intended to go for blue but i lost my necron abyss. however i really like the contrast with the red and it ties into the lava bass i'm doing so i'm going to use it across my entire force. i took off all the details and rivets to leave me with a plain block. only the lava detail is painted, the rest of the hammer and the rest of the model have merely been primed silver and roughly washed with blue what do we think about the result? what about the red vs blue or any other colors that might work? cheers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232596-my-dreadknight-hammer/ Share on other sites
RamrodMC
Henry I think you've outdone yourself. That glow is sick... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232596-my-dreadknight-hammer/#findComment-2798129 Share on other sites
henrywalker
thankyou, i'm currently working on a greatsword, i'm not as happy with it though. the corners of the hammer make it easier. photos to come Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232596-my-dreadknight-hammer/#findComment-2798159 Share on other sites

Myxx
I'd call that a resounding success! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232596-my-dreadknight-hammer/#findComment-2798171 Share on other sites
Urb
I don't like the model itself and the photo's angle is making me dizzy but the hammer looks great. I don't even know how anyone could paint it better. henrywalker
So i just finished a greatsword in the same technique. I'm not quite as happy with it, the lightning works best on the corners. the hilt and handle of the sword is not painted just the blade. Every time i post a photo and say the model is not painted i get 100s of comments saying they dont think the paint job is very good. VERY annoying ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232596-my-dreadknight-hammer/#findComment-2798209 Share on other sites
Urb
Right, in general I think the dreadknight is hideous. Perhaps the desired effect. I hope people can reconize that you've only begun the paintwork on the rest of the model and should withold comment until you officially present your results. On the sword it's the intensity of the white. On the hammer it's just right. The lightning is solid white in the center and fads sharply to the edges. This is not the same on the sword. I can see through the white which reduces the realism. Makes it look like paint. RamrodMC
I'm with Urb, it's just the white. The warm colours painted onto the black look great, but the white needs more TLC. I would suggest more layers of white with a finer brush, and maybe making the "lightning" narrower, although that requires more work. But yeah, again as Urb said, it's pretty obvious your Dreadknight is just basecoated white and inked in a few places. How could anyone not realise it's a WIP? henrywalker
cheers guys, forsome reason its happened tome FOUR TIMES!!! that people have assumed the wrong thing. I certainly agree with you on the lightning, it will be harder to do the appropriate work on regular sized weapons though, i'll repost a picture later with the changes Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232596-my-dreadknight-hammer/#findComment-2798341 Share on other sites
Montuhotep
They're both still far beyond what I can do - they're marvellous, although yes the hammer does look better. henrywalker
What do people think about trying to do source lighting from the blades? do they seem bright enough?
