henrywalker
so here is the hammer for my dreadknight. I had originally intended to go for blue but i lost my necron abyss. however i really like the contrast with the red and it ties into the lava bass i'm doing so i'm going to use it across my entire force. i took off all the details and rivets to leave me with a plain block. only the lava detail is painted, the rest of the hammer and the rest of the model have merely been primed silver and roughly washed with blue what do we think about the result? what about the red vs blue or any other colors that might work? cheers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232598-my-dreadknight-hammer/ Share on other sites
henrywalker
So i just finished a greatsword in the same technique. I'm not quite as happy with it, the lightning works best on the corners. the hilt and handle of the sword is not painted just the blade. henrywalker
thank you, it is not particularly difficult, you just have to think through what you are doing. i paint the entire surface in a very dark version of my desired color, in this case about 2:1 mechrite red: chaos black. then i pick my light spots, the places where the lightning is coming from. for example with the hammer i chose 4 of the 8 corners (although one i left darker than the rest) then in a star pattern from the bright spots i painted on mechrite red, covering quite a large area, then smaller, mechrite and blood red, then blood, then blood and blazing orange, then orange, then yellow. each star shape gets smaller until the yellow is right at the corner. using the edge of the brush i also painted very thin yellow lines a few mm olong the edges of the hammer leading away from the dark spots. I then connected all brightspots with lightning patterns in yellow, the key is not to do to many or it becomes messy. then i do a final corner and edge highlight with white and trace over the lightening with a thinner line of white. once this is done i take chaos black and blend it onto the non bright spots, ie the places or corners furthest away from the bright spots. I also plan to use a gloss coat on just these parts of the model. thanks for the praise, i did not expect such a reaction  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232598-my-dreadknight-hammer/#findComment-2798302 Share on other sites
T3mpl@r Crusade
very nice! I like the lightning pattern on the hammer. simple, and jagged, just the way I like it Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232598-my-dreadknight-hammer/#findComment-2798572 Share on other sites
