Captain Semper
Well here it is: Blood Drinkers are clearly shown as a Second Founding Chapter in both Codex SM and Codex DAs (in the usual table/list of legions). However in Codex BA it says "Unkown Founding" on p.54. So which is it? And why the retcon? Any answers would be appreciated...
Vodunius
One important point about the 'usual' chart that a lot of people fail to notice is that it is it not and never has been a infallible list of 2nd Founding Chapters, what it shows is those chapters listed as being 2nd Founding in a book written 2,000+ years after the event took place. Presumably someone at GW noticed that the Blood Drinkers were explicitly stated to not be 2nd Founding in Codex: Angels of Death and unlike the Flesh Tearers (likewise noted at the time) there has never been any corroborating evidence. Captain Semper
Good point - about the Angels of Death Codex... didn't think fo looking there. Actually it is the same in Codex UM of the 2nd Ed. Still odd though. Why would they go back and say Blood Drinkers are not Second Founding but Flesh Tearers are? Bear with me as I come up to speed wioth fluff here... Octavulg
Flesh Tearers have an entire IA about being Second Founding. In White Dwarf and everything.
Vodunius
Because the Flesh Tearers were firmly established as 2nd Founding by their Index Astartes article, whilst the Blood Drinkers have no corroborating evidence either way. Edit: Damn. Ninja'd.
