Olgerth Istaarn
I got to thinking. TWC is a perfect or near-perfect Deathstar unit because it is fast, tough and has staying power - that is, it can take a couple lumps before models start dropping off and the unit's power diminishes. It can survive a hard encounter with acceptable losses and move on to another target with reasonable hopes of prevailing again. But what if there was no TWC? What other SW units work as good, resilient deathstars with respectable punch? Max_Dammit
No matter the points? 3 wolflords wolfs as pets and a wolfpriest would dammage something a bit they even can join some GH or wolfguard Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232666-viable-sw-deathstar/#findComment-2799113 Share on other sites
Iacton Qruze
I'd put them in a max squad of BC. largest group of ablative wounds, 2 charge attacks each. If you give the WP SotH, and can cover hop, you're looking at a 3+ cover save as you slog across the board. Pretty rough, but also around 1000 points for everything... Could also take a WG unit, pay for the Arjac upgrade, and attach him to the BC unit as well... Which could upgrade a model to Lucas the Trickster if you're really feeling it. Wow... I actually like this unit. might build it sometime. ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232666-viable-sw-deathstar/#findComment-2799116 Share on other sites

Simo429
If I weren't worried about points A crusader Ragnar a wolf priest Arjac and 10 wolf guards armed as differently as possible Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232666-viable-sw-deathstar/#findComment-2799184 Share on other sites
Lord Ragnarok
How about that same setup Simo but using Logan instead of ragnar and the priest? Can make use of and his wounds to absorb wounds and preferred enemy. Olgerth Istaarn
What's the point of arming wolfguards differently? They are each 1 wound, so no way to play musical wounds. Maximus-92
What's the point of arming wolfguards differently? They are each 1 wound, so no way to play musical wounds wolf guard unit of three different guys takes say, 4 plasma wounds and 2 saveable wounds, You double up the plasma wounds on two of them and take two armour saves on the third. if he passes one lives, while if you were al armed the same they would have all died. You dont need multiple wounds to be cheesy . Just the other day in a game against two i saved a bunch of grey hunters using this technique when a unit of suits with a bunch of attached drones shot at them. More firepower is not always better. This is why clever players often opt not to shoot weapons which allow saves at the same time as weapons which do not allow them or even mix lots of high ap weapons in with low ap ones. Grey Mage
Yup- variations allow for AP 2/3 wound stacking, wich can make alot of deaths just go 'poof'. Its nice. But yeah, 10 WG in a Landraider, or a smaller unit with a priest in it works just fine. You dont have to go hog wild to get good effect from WG. hendrik
i've actually fielded a unit of logan, 10 grey hunters, a runepriest and a wolf priest inside a landraider crusader. used relentless when they jumped out, rapid firing and casting JOTWW right into the enemy before charging in headlong. this unit ate through my opponents army using the landraider to redeploy fast Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232666-viable-sw-deathstar/#findComment-2799535 Share on other sites

Quillen
The one that works the best for me is what Simo said. Ragnar with 10 Wolf Gaurd tricked out a bit in a LRC. it gets there it kills and it moves on. It's always gotten more then it's points back. Ragnar dies alot thou. Still I win when he dies so it sorta works out ok. lol I also use Logan Grimar in a Pod with Long Fangs. 3 Heavy melts and 2 plasma cannons. I some times through a WG with TDA and a sheild or 2 Rune priests. It lands it kills the plasma kills then it moves across the board killing. Sometimes if I have the points I trick the Pack leader out for melee too. 3 to 4 melee death machines with 5 range death machines. MaveriK
Logan and Long Fangs work, but why add Ulrik? Umm, because he looks cool, and he's there to play poker with the old guys. But I was thinking of Slayer's Oath, and Mentor.. I'd give Mentor to a plasma cannon Long Fang. commander alexander
I like that idea to, but I still don't understand why, even if it was just some stupid trick. A WS5 Long Fang couldn't do anything in close combat. Give the mentor rule to a WG and put it with them.
